Rams vs Niners anti vent thread

No vent. We shouldn’t have been in this situation. We did not play like we wanted a super bowl. So we wait til next season.

They need to fix the run game. Add a big back, maybe one that can help as a FB as well.

Add more physicality at C, and more size on the DL.

Do that and they will be fine.

The rest of the young OL should get better, the WRs, secondary, and LB's have depth.

Looking forward to see how they attack the off-season.

Sure would be nice to win a SB every year, but that’s not how it works. Sometimes it’s just not in the cards. But I’ll tell you this. We’re in MUCH better shape than we have been in a very long time. So let’s try not to act like we’re entitled to anything. We sucked for 9/10ths of the 90’s, over half of the 2000’s, and for 3/4 of this decade. But the last 1/4 of it has been a ride, and we’re not doormats anymore. We have a young nucleus with a young innovative HC and we’re gonna have THE premiere stadium in the league soon.

And ... we still have each other.

If Shanahan can use one why can't he? They used Rock Cartwright in Washington when he was there and he drafted one his first year, but the kid didn't make it.

Just curious if he sees what's going on in the league with more physical ground attacks and if he adjusts.

Then IMO he should use the TE's more to counter them loading a heavy box. I agree with right now the league is using heavy physical ground attacks but that's what the league is. Coming up with something to beat what people are doing and then adjusting when they go to counter it. I made the comment last year when we were watching all the jet sweep quick passing game to receivers schemed open that people would in fact switch to a heavy offense as defenses adjusted to the faster game. It all comes around. IMO keep doing what we're doing just refine it and refine the personnel.

All we need on Offense is some OL upgrades and play calling to counteract defenses getting into Goff's head. The latest OL is doing a very good job on pass protection but we need serious upgrade on run blocking. Stud C and stud replacement at LT (gotta believe Whit will retire) are high on my list. Goff is so hot and cold - but for every crap play tonight (pick 6, almost int, etc.) he made 2-3 excellent plays. He is our man for the next 4+ years so lets support that going forward.

On defense - we have a ton of talent and a lot of salary. Figure out what we have, trim some of the excess and balance the salary cap towards the most pressing needs. Thumper at ILB and cheaper replacement for Brockers are high on my list. Donald is still the best defensive player in the NFL so lets tweak the front 7 to turn him loose. Keep adding talent to the back 4 to give the pass rush more time to do their damage.

This will not be a great team until they can run the ball on teams when teams are expecting it, but cant stop it. This year they had to rely too much on fooling teams. You can't win that way consistently as was evident this season.

Agreed. And not being able to run makes the defensive job vs the pass much easier.

And IMO the running game is a factor of the OLine being young and needing experience and a couple of upgrades as well as Gurley not being the same. I just don't see a FB being the solution to it. I'm not arguing to argue or be a dick sorry if it seems that way. I wish it was a simple as adding a FB. I just can't see it fixing anything especially as next season teams adjust to the FB and the physical run game. McVay himself needs to keep switching it up even from drive to drive. Maybe put Mundt in the backfield as a blocker he's certainly improved in that aspect of his game.

Im proud of the guys for playing hard until the final whistle even if they didn't win. Higbee and woods did great. Cooks showed up and did his thing. Reynolds and Kupp got some action and looked good. Goff did a good job extending plays on the rollouts and his accuracy was back. The O line looked outstanding not allowing a single sack against that defensive front. Gurley looked good at times as well. Defense was up and down but Ramsey and Williams had interceptions and there were several sacks. I can't complain they exceeded my expectations.

Fix the OL. Keep working on the defense. Build this thing around McVay. If Wade is out, make sure McVay has a ton of help bringing in the right DC.

This roster isn't garbage, there's a lot of great pieces in place to include the right guy running the show.

It's easy to see that the Rams are finally coming together. The o-line for the most part is almost set. Blythe predictably was a causal factor in now two games where his blown block caused pressure and a INT/TD. Once he's no longer on the team and Allen returns with Noteboom at LT this will be a decent o-line. Edwards is struggling at OG and Evans is showing his limitations at OT. This is why I've been saying they need to switch positions. Now that they are out of the playoffs, the 2020 preseason starts next weekend. Overall I was pretty happy with the o-line (with the exception of Blythe who continues to suck) and think they have the makings to be a decent unit.

Darious Williams showed he's an upgrade to Hill with much tighter man coverage skills. IMO he should be the number 3 CB next year taking over the slot. Next week they should start David Long to give him game experience.

I'm sure Brown won't be extended. That is why I expect them to draft a RB in either round 2 or 3. I'm pretty sure Christian will want to go where he can start and there are plenty of teams where he could be a starter out there. So I think it would be prudent to play Scott or Gervase to give them game experience as well and sit Rapp.

I would also sit Goff as it's not worth the risk playing him in a meaningless game. The Chargers did that with Brees and he got hurt in the last meaningless game. Play Bortles who wants to showcase himself. Sit Cooks and Kupp and play Reynolds and Nsimba to give them game experience as well.

What I'm saying is that the Rams should treat this as they treated the last game in 2018 where they rolled out their second unit for the most part and gave them game experience and saw what they have in them. Noteboom stood out at LT in that game which gave them confidence IMO to move on from Whitworth next year. They can use this game to get a long look at some key guys who might play a bigger role in 2020.

As I've been saying this team looks pretty much set with it's starters. But it definitely won't be the same team that played in 2018, but IMO it will be better.

You might not agree on a few specific positions but IMO the starters next year are on the team already and with the exception of Young and Long they will have game experience. On their o-line I see strength and depth for the first time. With the emergence of the TE's in McVay's offense they are very deep in receivers, with both TE's being grossly under rated. Goff showed that behind good o-line play he can be extremely good. Ebukam continues to show he's an impact player that deserves to be a full time starter. Also I think this game was Williams coming out game. He played up to my expectations and showed things which I still contend are lacking in Hill. I will enjoy watching Williams and Long compete for that boundary CB start. Darious showed he's not to be overlooked.

Yes I see a lot to look forward to next year. Especially since it appears they have sorted out their o-line issues.

I think we handle the cards and go 9-7. Still a winning season. If a few plays go our way we would be talking playoffs this year. That’s life in the NFL. Sometimes those breaks don’t go your way and you’re on the outside looking in.

A learning season for our young HC. I’m sure we’ll regroup and be stronger next year when we play in our very own stadium for the first time.
