Baldy is dead on. That offense looked dangerous last night. And Puka had 1 day in pads? Unbelievable. And the D looked really good too. Get Avila and JJ back, keep that up and a nice run is definitely possible.
Ya I could tell they had Puka on a "pitch count"... kept getting subbed out every other play... him AND Coop, in fact.
Gotta love that we got 2-3 other WR's who can swap out with them & stay fresh. When JW gets back, it will even be better, as I could tell that when they were subbed out, the Rams would often run it--they had a number of 1-2 looks that is not usual for McVay, but it's what they had to do to ease Puka & Coop back into the speed of the game.

What a difference Kupp and Puka made for the offense , and Staffords game. The defense had a rough start , but finished strong. We’re back in the running guys.

OL getting some love

Dedich has been a nice find so far. He doesn't seem to have the greatest strength to just bully someone but he takes good leverage and angles and seems to really know exactly what he's suppose to do. Still a backup level player but oline has been good enough since he came in. Might develop into something better over a couple years. Definitely will nudge out Bruss it looks like.

Our young defense is getting better. We got nailed with 2 TDs in the first quarter then only allowed 2 FGs the rest of the way. If our O-line gets healthy and out defense keeps improving, this team can still turn things around and make a run for the playoffs.

Our schedule looks favorable with the She hags up next, then the dolphins and patriots.
I just hope that McVay saw how the run defense was so much better without Reeder in there.

I think the longest run last night was 7 yards whereas that was the median when Reeder was in there.

Sure we will have instances where our young lbs will get flat footed on some passes but it is so much better on the run.

Thanks.

Pretty sure if I remember watching his interview and he said that the only schools that gave him a scholarship. And when Covid came all he did was lift on the down solo time and when they came back finally everybody was all “ who the fucj is this guy” he was totally different and was wrecking teams.

He’s from right up the road from me in NE Pennsylvania. Verse played at Central Columbia high school, not to be confused with powerhouse. Southern Columbia high school 15 miles away. He lived in Berwick, PA

We play Central Columbia every year in high school. Our team, Danville has been a local powerhouse for the last 8 years or more. Verse was practically invisible. I never noticed him. You notice the kids on the opposing teams that really stand out. It’s not difficult to see.

Verse’s defensive coach is now our defensive coach and he said he was nothing special in high school. Central hasn’t had a good program as long as I can remember. So he was not developed in high school, and he wasn’t very big in high school. So he was recruited by DIII schools. He really grew while in college. Coupled with better coaching from college coaches and training, he blossomed. Florida State did a clinic at Albany and discovered Verse while there. So he transferred.

No, hes not! Hes from PA, and one of UAlbany line coaches scouted him in high school and recruited him to UAlbany. Nate Byham was the offensive coach/ Lead scout back then if I remember correctly. The Great Danes help mold him into the beast he is now. He was an undersized TE, and they told him to bulk up and he could be a force on defense.

Now let’s add Jamin Davis (or another low cost option) to further improve ILB. I saw Speights look a little lost at first. Did anyone noticed how he settled in?
I thought Hummel came in and played decent, little late on one of the coverages, Speights getting used to the speed of the game, kudos to the guys up front plus Quentin Lake & Jaylen McCollough for outstanding run support and the defensive line.

For all the complaining I do about miss tackles, Lake is outstanding is this area.

Exactly right on why he went to Albany

Im not sure about that cause and effect relationship - but the run defense was certainly better.

Speights had a 67.7 PFF grade. Not a ton of snaps - but that certainly is higher than what we have seen from our usual.

Hummell had a 37.5 pff grade.... which is of course dog shit territory.

Limmer really settled down and had a good game. There was one stretch I think he had 3 penalties in 2 drives and the chat room was commenting on it
