Kansas City Chiefs select with the #216 pick.........

Shaq Calhoun
Mississippi St.
G

Calhoun goes by "Shaq" because of his size and basketball prowess. He was the first in his Birmingham, Alabama-area high school to earn a FBS scholarship. He redshirted in 2014 and then earned a start at right guard in the Bulldogs' 2015 bowl game after playing in the first 12 games as a reserve. He started nine games on the right side in 2016, missing four with an ankle injury, and then lined up for all 13 games at right guard with the ones as a junior. Calhoun finished his career at Starkville with 13 starts in 2018 at right guard.

Overview
Calhoun is more gritty than pretty with a body type that falls outside the NFL norm, but he has a grit level that is right on time. Hand inconsistencies force him into catch-up mode more than teams might like, but he has an impressive ability to scramble and get guys blocked. Calhoun is average in the phone booth, but will surprise teams with his body control and ability to make blocks in space. He has good backup potential with a shot to step in and stand his ground if asked to make a start.
Strengths
  • Thick barrel-chested upper body with long arms
  • Much more athletic than he looks
  • Can transition from primary block to a gapping linebacker with good smoothness
  • Strikes, widens and drives as base blocker
  • Shows ability to match power with power early in the rep
  • Excellent hustle to lead the charge on long pulls
  • Finds a workable angle to engage on short pulls
  • Competitive and extra gritty against bigger men
  • Showed off impressive talent to scramble and recover against Alabama's Raekwon Davis
  • Able to bend, gather and adjust to corral targets out in space
  • Anchor and base strength to fight back against a rugged attack
  • Motor keeps cranking
Weaknesses
  • Hands too often wide of the frame, forcing multiple re-sets
  • Aim on down blocks often too tall
  • Leads with upper body rather than sliding feet to stay in front of rush counters
  • Lacks instincts and awareness against stunts and twists
  • Allows moving parts to hit him square in the face before reacting at times
  • Needs to operate with better footwork and tempo on double teams
  • Choppy mover up to second level
  • Shorter than NFL teams like at guard

The Philadelphia Eagles draft haul is the following:

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, FS, Florida.
Devin Singletary, RB, Florida Atlantic.
Trysten Hill, NT, Central Florida.
Hunter Renfrow, WR, Clemson.

They are officially out of picks...unless someone wants to trade a seventh for Andrew Sendejo?

PLAYLIST
Godwin was drafted in the 33rd round of the 2016 Major League Baseball amateur draft but decided to continue his time with the Bulldogs instead of chasing baseball. He had been named the team's Co-Newcomer of the Year after the 2015 season (nine starts in 13 games; 35-379-10.8, two TD receiving; 4-58-14.5 punt returns). Godwin was also the TaxSlayer.com Bowl Most Valuable Player with four receptions for 34 yards and a score as a receiver and a 44-yard touchdown pass. He started just 4 of 13 games as a sophomore but was still productive (38-397-10.4). He was a starter as a junior (14 of 15 games played), grabbing 38 passes for 639 yards (16.8 average) and scoring six times, including a big-game effort in the SEC Championship Game against Auburn (5-48-1). Godwin's senior season was derailed by various leg injuries early on, but he came back to start 9 of 13 games played (23-385-16.7, three TD).

Overview
Tall, thin slot receiver with soft hands, good field awareness and fluid routes. The word "natural" is accurate in describing Godwin's game, but short arms and lack of play strength are hurdles he will have to clear. If he can improve his press-release, he has a chance to become more than a backup with inside or outside value.
Strengths
  • Adjusts routes to avoid congestion and stay on time
  • Crisp, sharp routes with little wasted movement
  • Routes feature forward lean and consistent play speed
  • Able to tilt defender at the break point
  • Staccato settle-steps for quick in-and-out from his breaks
  • Fluid, soft hands when catching on the move
  • Plucks it with proper extension and decent radius
  • Quick gear-down to catch and dot feet near sideline
  • Was able to eat against Shrine Game cornerbacks. Adequate wiggle and speed after catch
Weaknesses
  • Slender frame with skinny legs and short arms
  • Play strength is a concern
  • Struggled to get off press against Vandy's Joejuan Williams
  • Lacks physicality at the top of his routes
  • Average burst out of breaks
  • Has tendency to drift out of turns and stems
  • Small frame and lack of length show up on contested catches
  • Needs to be more aggressive in work-backs to throws

Parham is a tall drink of water with a football legacy in his genes. His father, four uncles and a cousin played on in college. However, Donald did not play football at Lake Gibson High in Lakeland, Florida, until his senior season. Stetson saw his potential, moving him from receiver to tight end. He played in four games as a true freshman, accumulating no statistics. Parham started six of 11 games played in 2016, finishing second on the team with 37 catches and 455 receiving yards and leading the Hatters with six touchdown receptions. He was the team's top pass-catcher in 2017, garnering honorable mention All-Pioneer Football League honors (58-817-14.1, one TD). His senior season really got him on scouts' radars, as he landed consensus FCS All-American and first-team All-Pioneer League honors by leading all FBS/FCS tight ends with 9.4 receptions and 146.6 receiving yards per game (85-1,319-15.5, 13 TD total). Stetson had its game against Presbyterian cancelled due to Hurricane Florence and Parham missed another game with a concussion.

Overview
In today's NFL, labels are falling by the wayside and such is the case for the tall Stetson "tight end." In reality, he is an unusually tall, mismatch slot with soft hands and intriguing athletic ability who comes from an extended family of football players. He can expect more robust physical challenges from snap to whistle as NFL defenses look to disrupt his routes and test his toughness. Parham is a Day 3 developmental pass-catcher, but his ball skills and physical traits could push his ceiling higher.
Strengths
  • Monster pass-catcher production as primary target over two years
  • Dominated his level of competition in 2018
  • Plays with build-up speed to separate in the seam
  • Long strides add space from defender out of his turns
  • Basketball athlete in space with athleticism to get open
  • Works into teeth of defense and focuses through the traffic
  • Rare height with catch radius to match
  • Able to leap and take the tall ones away from safeties
  • Soft, natural hands pick it away from his frame
  • Subtle use of frame to defend the catch-point
  • Rarely asked, but did flash stalk-blocking potential in space
Weaknesses
  • Tall, thin frame makes "tight end" designation a stretch
  • Will need additional play strength
  • Will get knocked way off-course by committed route redirection
  • Route asks were very basic
  • Below-average balance for sharp route breaks
  • Can play faster and will need to play faster as a pro
  • Just moderate effort as decoy or when doubled
  • Level of competition failed to challenge him
  • Likely tabbed as a mismatch slot only

On behalf of @Ramrocket with the 221st pick of the ROD Mock Draft the Cleveland Browns select...

Penny Hart, WR, Georgia St.

7910464.JPG

A steal in the 7th!!

Route Running –He's really, really good when he's able to stack press coverage. He's very slippery at the line of scrimmage and understands value in adjusting his angles on the fly to create more space to roll through breaks and manipulate coverage for a larger throwing window.

Hands –Not the most impressive, largely on account of small hand size. Hot throws with a lot of zip can eat him up and he struggles to pluck the ball cleanly away from his frame. He's better over the shoulder than when he's square to the ball.
Contested Catch Ability –He doesn't offer a prominent catch radius, nor does he showcase a lot of functional play strength to survive with a defender draped across his back. Instead, he's pretty limited unless he's running away from the defender as he's receiving the ball.

Run After Catch Ability - He's very slippery. Brings a little more fight to him when he's facing contact that one would expect. His shiftiness and open field vision also allow him to break into open space and create chunks of yardage when hit in stride.

Football IQ –Considering his status as a small school player, he's really developed. I love his route running ability and how well he handles different coverages to create windows for himself. Will face a level of competition bump but his technique and IQ will lessen impact.

Vertical Receiving –He's pretty dynamic, really like his ability to stack guys vertically and get on top of defensive backs. Tracks the football over his shoulder very well and has had success staving off contact and still seeing the ball into his hands.

Change of Direction Skills –He's quicker than a hiccup. Very sudden and shows great lateral mobility and foot speed to sidestep a potential jam attempt or to work across the face of off coverage. He's very effective in sustaining his speed through the break.

Speed –He's super sudden in short spaces and has no problem with torching defenders who are tasked with playing up in his face. He has effective ability to pull away from defenders trying to latch onto him in phase. Will eat up cushion and burn off coverage.

Competitive Toughness –He's pretty scrappy but he's not going to be pushing anyone around as a blocker. His best flashes of toughness come as a runner, where he can generate some momentum and play through soft tackle challenges effectively.

Blocking Ability –He's going to be a non-factor as a blocker. He simply doesn't possess the strength, power or reach to be able to dictate terms to defensive backs who may be looking to press past him and get into the action in screen game or against the run.

BEST TRAIT – Route Running

WORST TRAIT – Functional Strength

BEST FILM – Troy (2018)

WORST FILM – NC State (2018)

RED FLAGS – None

Penny Hart projects well as a slot receiver at the NFL level. Hart is lacking in the needed size and strength to play off of press coverage on the boundary but in the slot, where he can find more free releases and more space to work, he will feast against man to man coverage and cook up a lot of separation. Hart is a dynamic threat with the ball in his hands and should be widely regarded as a weapon in any offense, given his RAC ability and his ability to stretch the field vertically.

I have PM'd @Petrowsky .. he has an hour to make his pick for the Bears.

He hasn't been online for over 24 hours so we may have to pick for him. Maybe go for best available? They seem to have a solid list.

With two picks to come the Bears have picked up ..

Darrell Henderson, RB, Memphis
Jalen Jelks, Edge, Oregon
Mike Bell, S, Fresno

Offseason Moves:
  • Bears sign S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
  • Bears sign G/C Ted Larsen
  • Bears sign WR Cordarrelle Patterson
  • Bears sign CB Buster Skrine
  • Bears sign RB Mike Davis
  • Bears sign K Chris Blewitt
  • Bears cut K Cody Parkey

    Team Needs:
  • Edge Rusher: Chicago could benefit from another edge player to join Khalil Mack and Leonard Floyd, especially with Aaron Lynch heading for free agency. Drafted Jalen Jelks.
  • Safety: Lost safety Adrian Amos via Free Agency to Green Bay. Tough to replace - signed Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Drafted Mike Bell.
  • Slot Cornerback: Bryce Callahan free agent to Broncos. Signed Buster Skrine.

I nominate Zach Gentry, TE, Michigan for the Chicago Bears.

We need a second and third nomination to keep this thing going.
