Pick 111 - The Detroit Lions Select

DaMarkus Lodge, WR, Ole Miss

Lodge's size and ability to compete for 50-50 balls are enticing, but inconsistent hands and issues uncovering against long press corners cannot be ignored. His body type and playing style are better suited for more layered, vertical passing concepts than what he saw at Ole Miss. All elements of his game will need work before he can become a factor as a pro, and scheme could matter for him.

Strengths
  • Pro body type as outside receiver
  • Has created a variety of releases to use vs
  • press
  • Accurate hands to slap and displace press punch
  • Good physicality to fight off handsy cornerbacks inside his route
  • Understands and uses speed variance in patterns to create opportunities
  • Excellent boundary awareness and footwork to drop and dot near sideline
  • At his best down the field
  • Feel for stacking cornerbacks on his hips and maintaining position
  • Uses elevation and mid-air body control to contort and win the 50-50 ball
  • Decent wiggle with plus stiff-arm that create extra yards after catch

With the 112th pick the Buffalo Bills select: Rodney Anderson, RB Oklahoma

RB, Oklahoma

ANALYST'S REPORTS
Vision
- Shows patience behind the line of scrimmage. Great runner behind pullers on counter and power runs. Absolutely devastating in the open field with his combination of athleticism and natural field vision. Can occasionally have questionable vision behind the line of scrimmage on inside and zone runs, can be too quick to cut back or bounce. Will run high through the hole and attempt to stay upright with stiff arms rather than pad level.
Contact Balance / Elusiveness - Slips and glides by tackles and blockers in the open field with ease. Though he isn't overly powerful when taking on tacklers head on, he consistently picks up yards moving forward through contact. Runs through arm tackles and defenders generally need to square him up to bring him to the ground.
Change of Direction - Easy, natural vertical cuts. Loose in his hips. Flexible mover in the open field, sets up his blockers and operates with clean elusiveness.
Receiving - Excellent receiving potential coming out of the backfield with his open field ability. Change of direction allows for smooth breaks, and showed excellent ability on the “Texas” route. Hands and body control to match his receiving potential, including wins in contested situations.
Pass Protection - Willing and adept blocker and pass protection and in the run game. Processes and will work to find work. Though he has solid effort in pass protection, he has the habit of occasionally using the “super shoulder” when taking on blitzers, rather than maintaining a wide base.

  • Best Trait - Ability in space

    Worst Trait - Durability

    Best Film - TCU (2017)

Red Flags - Has suffered multiple season-ending injuries throughout collegiate career. Durability will be a question mark upon entering the NFL.

    Round Grade - 2nd Round

Summary - Anderson has an ideal NFL build, and his athleticism is apparent on tape. With an evenly distributed frame, he has above average play strength as well. As a talent, he is one of the best running backs in the NFL Draft. Few prospects have his well-rounded, refined game and his ceiling. However, his injury history is a major red flag. If he’s able to consistently stay on the field, he is a player who has pro-bowl potential. Being apart of a timeshare early in his career may be his best fit, as his durability concerns could be alleviated that way.

Once again, a Raven's need is also a value pick. The lack of a pass rush ended Baltimore's season last year. Adding Christian Miller to the Edge and the #113th pick, DL LJ Collier will raise the Raven pass rush to Formidable.
upload_2019-4-2_21-16-41.png

"From the snap, Collier uses heavy hands and sheer meanness to get home. Yet, he will uncork a spin to slip a block and work his way back into the play. Meanwhile, if he extends his arms and gets that separation, tackles will get pushed back and off-balance. At the next level, Collier will provide a line coach a canvas to learn new technique" NFL scout

With pick 116 the Miami Dolphins select

Justice Hill , RB , Oklahoma State

CAC39FBE-DCDD-48B2-B4B9-3AC45D27E190.jpeg

Height: 5-9. Weight: 198. Arm: 31.63. Hand: 9.50.
40 Time: 4.40. 10-Yd: 1.48.
Bench: 21. Vertical: 40. Broad: 10-10

3/7/19: At the combine, Hill ripped off a blazing fast 40, but did not finish the workout. Still, he could be the top speed back in the 2019 NFL Draft. Hill averaged 5.9 yards per carry in 2018 for 930 yards with nine touchdowns. Also, he made 13 receptions for 68 yards. Oklahoma State did not get Hill the ball as much as it should have.

There is no doubt that Hill is a natural runner and is very talented. Perhaps the best traits that set Hill apart are his first-step quickness and his burst to get to the second level of the defense. On top of his speed, Hill has good feet with cutting ability to zig zag through the defense. He plays with good knee bend and runs behind his pads, which helps him finish runs well by falling forward. Via patience and vision, Hill lets holes develop before darting downfield. On top of his running ability, Hill is a nice outlet receiver who runs quality routes and makes catches with his hands.

As a pro, Hill could be a rotational and complementary back similar to the Bengals' Gio Bernard. Hill looks worthy of being a second- or third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

8/28/18: Hill is a very good college back, but he is very undersized for the NFL. In 2017, Hill averaged 5.5 yards per carry for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also was a good outlet receiver, catching 30 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. In his freshman year, Hill averaged 5.5 yards per carry for 1,142 yards with six scores. He also had five receptions for 46 yards that season. For the NFL, Hill might fit best as a third-down receiving and backup running back.

Sorry dudes, worked last night and slept in. I really didn't think there was any more activity to happen when I went down last night. Pick in a second.

With the 117th pick, the Falcons stay at home with Elijah Holyfield, RB, Georgia

At 5'10", 217, you'd think he'd have a better 40 time, and that's why he's still available here but don't sleep on this kid. He will have a better pro career than he did a college one. Watch for it!!!!
