That dolphins game gave me Superbowl LIII PTSD. Our o line could not pick up the blitz and Goff looked horrible against the pressure.

That said, I think if the team had a true big #1 reciever, teams would not 0 cover blitz like the dolphins did. Our recievers are small and quick and although that's their best trait, it also hurts because they can't break press coverage and go over the top. No one is afraid of Kupp and Woods beating them deep.

I'm back on ROD! and I'm saying this team will never win big without a game breaking WR .

I thought about that yesterday while watching as well. We don't seem to have that guy that can take the top off of a defense. I was hoping Van could help with that. I think he has nice long speed from what I heard about him at the Senior Bowl. We just don't seem to use that part of the route tree very much anymore.

Perhaps worse then passing on DK this draft, was the trade up pick of Austin. We could have had Hopkins at pick 16 and not given Buffalo our 2nd, 3rd, and 7th pick for the pleasure of taking the bust Austin. Think of how things would look with Hopkins out there....

I feel like we should move on Reynolds and start playing Van Jefferson more. Im not a fan of trading high draft picks for WRs. Didnt really work out with Sammy Watkins and Brandin Cooks. You can find good WRs on the depth chart somewhere in the league.

I think our receivers are fine but Jefferson should play more for sure. Our guys are good, I love them. But having a true number one would make us even better.

Even with his injury history, I'd put something together for OBJ in the off season.
Damn you beat me by 2 minutes! I was literally going to say:

If you punt on upgrading the receivers this year, what pick would you be okay giving up for obj provided he's healthy this off-season?

A #1 WR needs time to beat DB's/CB's downfield and time is something Goff doesn't have (from reports). Seems like we have pretty good TE's, who can relieve pressure on Goff a lot more than a guy racing down field. Also, he'd have to be cheap(#1 WR), which means a rookie?

JMHO.

We didn't have a real #1 WR in 2018. Haven't had one for the duration of McVay's tenure in fact. I do agree it would be nice but you don't need one to have a good passing game offense.

What you need is a big number of matchup problems. We are only 2 deep now on matchup threats because Reynolds is just a guy. Everett has not developed. Still. And Higs has been dinged up.

When you have matchup problems for a defense your OC is a genius. When you don't he's not. We really need Jefferson to step up. I don't think expecting either Everett or Mundt to step up is a good bet right now. The players believe it or not do matter.

I said this a couple weeks ago.. .kupp and woods are productive players but in general our offensive talent is really a mirage.

We have a some decent guys but we don't have any dk metcalfs, george kittles, or deandre hopkins
2 - 1,000 yard receivers is not a mirage. They aren't the problem.

I was thinking the same thing. It would shake up the offense and Jefferson would gain valuable experience. I like Reynolds, but he isn't the answer going forward, and he's not doing himself any favors in this contract year. I was also ticked off at his lack of effort on the fumble return. More importantly, however, I don't think any team will give him a big contract next year, so we might be looking at a very low-round comp pick at best. Put the rookie in there... maybe it will give the offense a spark. By the way... Woods and Kupp are very good at what they do, and the Rams do not need a #1. Just another good one would be fine. JMHO.

I don't necessarily disagree with the OP, but the reality right now is that we don't have one. We have three very good, technically sound WRs in Woods, Kupp and Jefferson, but no true #1, and we have to adapt to that reality.

And not every Super Bowl winner has a bona fide #1 WR anyway. It's nice to have, if we can get one somehow (with the constraints we have), we should, but for now I just want the coaches to deal with what we actually have an respond accordingly.

Not sure who the top WO's are coming out of college. But Chase out of LSU looked pretty good.
