Who are they bringing in?

No one. They just moved around the practice squad for right now, but now we got 2 experienced corners on there in case TruJo can't go, in which case we'd make a move to bring one or both of them up.

Ah - I was thinking McGee and White were on our 53.

Any info on this Melvin White guy?

He's a tall lengthy corner at 6'1" 205. Started 10 games in 2013 with the Panthers, and 7 games in 2014. Was apparently a surprise roster cut and a pretty solid backup. He's a talented player, worked his way up from an UDFA to a starting role.

- Tall cornerback. Lanky frame with long arms.

- Mostly played in a zone scheme on the outside. Gave up big cushions to receivers due to slow recovery speed and stiff hips.

- Great instincts and awareness – frequently blew up run plays and screen passes.

- Doesn’t bite on play action. Shows excellent patience and discipline.

- Very capable blitzer.

- Impressive range and excellent closing speed – ideal for a cornerback in a zone scheme, but also for a free safety.

- Takes good angles in run defense, but tackling is inconsistent. Wraps up, but tackles either too high or too low, which results in some whiffed tackles.

- Stiffer hips prevent him from keeping up with smaller, shiftier receivers. Got beat on double move in the endzone against Florida.

- Will need to improve timing on jumps so he can play the ball in the air better.

- Will need to get stronger to make an impact in the run game – too easily blocked by wide receivers on run plays.

PFF on White from a 2014 season preview.

"An undrafted free agent a year ago, Melvin White took over one of the starting cornerback jobs midseason and heads into 2014 looking to improve in his second year. Although preseason doesn’t count, it certainly matters, and White has shown improvement from last year. White finished the preseason fifth among all cornerbacks with a +5.0 grade and with many question marks in the Panthers’ secondary, White is near the bottom of the list and thus far serves as a success story for impact undrafted free agents."

Graded at +1.4 in a preseason game against the Phins this year, but was outperformed by another corner who eventually made the 53 for the panthers.

Another from a year ago

"Starting in the second half of 2013 as an undrafted rookie, White had an uneven run: three games with a coverage grade “in the green” and five “in the red”. He’s continued as a starter this preseason, looking solid and allowing just one reception of 20 yards or more through three games.

Key Stat: White has allowed just 0.61 Yards Per Coverage Snap in preseason."

So that should fill the PFF quota for the day.
