I think Daniel’s could be a steal but remain concerned that there isn’t much room on the roster and he might struggle to unseat Smith if, as expected, he remains our returner

“Daniels has been a productive collegiate receiver. He is effective with the ball in his hands, so Sean McVay should be able to put him in a position to make plays. (Josh Edwards)
Pro Comparison: Tory Horton
Summary
CJ Daniels is a highly explosive receiver who produced across multiple major programs with outstanding short-area quickness. He consistently creates separation at the top of routes and has the body control to make difficult, acrobatic catches look routine. A veteran leader with a nose for the end zone, he pairs sudden movements with a physical approach that makes him a reliable target at every level.
About
  • 2025: 50 receptions, 557 yards, 11 TD
  • Career: Liberty (2020-23); LSU (2024); Miami (2025)
Strengths

  • Exceptional hands and body control to secure catches outside his frame.
  • Disciplined perimeter blocker who sustains contact.

  • Occasional focus drops on routine throws.
  • Does not consistently stack defensive backs on vertical sideline routes.”

NFL wide, most of those 7th rounders will be cut. Mumpfield is a relative rarity and he might not even make it on to our 53 this year. His spot might have just been drafted.
They made it clear they're pretty happy with our linebackers after adding one free agent. They made it pretty clear they're happy with their safeties as well. Like I said, I see it as a confirmation that they like what we have and they want to spend camp developing those guys. What position would you want to flood with quantity to take up a spot on the 53?

Seems like more of what we have. But it's a late round pick so whatever, and I'm just irritated the Steelers got my preferred player there.
Nacua, DAdams, Mumpfield (deserves an 2nd year to develop) and X are in. That leaves max 2 spots for anyone else. I’m hoping another vet is brought in to challenge.

Maybe this kid can grow into a key piece for us. Personally I am less concerned with the knock on his YAC, because on that perimeter I value the hands and catch radius. Like the size. Like the toughness. Wish he was more athletic but there's a chance he's going to upgrade us at that WR3 spot.

I`m just glad we ended up NOT taking WR Lemon. Imagine how much of a head case he would have been when he realized he wouldn`t be getting more than 20 to 30 receptions a year (barring injury to Puka or DA).

This guy will be glad to get opportunities, and will make the most of them.
Imagine Puka & Makai on the town in LA. It would be like Puka & Makai's excellent adventure 2020's version.

I'd be interested in seeing the behind the scenes of this pick like we got when we picked Puka. McVay was absolutely raving about how much he wanted Puka to the point where Les was like, "Alright bro chill, I'll get him for you, it's just a 5th round pick".

Same place I landed.

X Smith turned into the Rams "deep threat" last year and I think he poses enough of a threat that defenses have to pay attention to him. He's a super-buget Brandin Cooks.

On a pure comedy note... how funny would it be if Ayuik ended up on the Rams on a budget deal and got his shit together? That would be incredible.

I never got the impression Lemon is a me not we guy. But he does seem a little out there. Kinda weird if you ask me. That wouldn't take him off my board if I was a decision maker. But I might have pause to pick him over someone who isn't as weird.

Also.. for those who want competition for X as a return guy... Presley will have some opportunity in camp

You might well be on to something there!

Brennan Presley, a wide receiver out of Oklahoma State who signed with the LA Rams, recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.46 seconds at the 2025 Big 12 Pro Day. Standing 5'8" and weighing 174-175 pounds, he is known for his agility, featuring a 4.07-second shuttle run and 6.71-second 3-cone drill.

Fortunately we kept him on the practice squad last year. Both he and Tru Edwards

PFF had him ranked 118 on their board so this is a solid pick this deep into the draft.

I wanted a returner but the two players I liked in particular had both been taken earlier than I thought they would

I have always liked him but was put off a little because I thought we would take a WR before and couldn’t see more than one making the team. He’s not a burner but has some great attributes. Snead is on record as saying that later round picks need to have one or two strong traits even if they are lacking athleticism and CJ absolutely fits that. He’s yet another player who battled his way on to a top program where he proved he belonged. Can he do the same here? Ordinarily I would bet on him but it might need to be via the practice squad

Adams
Puka
Whittingdon
Mumfield
Smith (returner)
CJ

With all the TEs, and a rookie QB, can we keep 6?

I am a little gutted we didn’t tab some lightening in a returner but perhaps I am missing something?

My biggest concern is we no longer have a burner at WR which has allowed defenses to sit our intermediate routes - the Seahawks especially - even we are so good at it that we remain productive
What do think Xavier Smith is if he is not a burner? He is only a tick slower than Tutu, and, to most NFL players, the difference in speed is negligible during games. Furthermore, as a returner, Xavier is more comfortable than Tutu at absorbing & avoiding hits, so he is capable of being a greater down field threat in some respects.

The guy is a McVay type receiver for sure. 1st rounder if he was fast.
But the single most important thing about WRs, is catching what is thrown to you and has that nailed.

I guess you got over his performance in the last game quicker than I have, but I take your point :-)

Accepting that the blocking on returns was downright disgraceful, he has not been particularly impressive

Until we see him do it consistently, we simply don't know. I have yet to see the timed speed equal play speed even if he has made some plays at WR
