This pick has the anticipation for watching the pre-season unequalled in my lifetime.
I think the only way Stetson makes the roster is if he lights it up and Simpson looks lost. But if Stetson only plays slightly better than Simpson, I think he gets cut. And if Stetson and Simpson both suck in camp, they will throw a bag at Jimmy or Flacco to be QB2.

So Fowler says Rams got trade calls for 13, Schefty says no.

It’s actually the single best reason not to take him. Unless you think he’s a generational player. Then go for it. But the Rams and Cardinals were the only teams with first round grades on him so I’m not sure that’s the case. If Simpson has a successful NFL career, he will be the first QB this century with his player profile to do so. Guys with this little experience at his size have not worked out. And even if you take size out of it, it’s still the same.
You have no idea which teams had a first round grade on him lol. The temper tantrums are fine, but please stop making up facts out of thin air to support your whining.

Hypothetical: If Stafford gets hurt week 10, is Simpson the starter?

I know… gasp! But… If we think this is a SB team we are one unlucky hit from season over. Simpson gives us hope if we can get him ready in time. I guess it’s possible he plays sooner than we think if the 38yr old Stafford misses time.

I really wanted us to load up on pass catchers. I didn’t like the pick at the time but let’s see what happens tonight.

Simpson moves well, good feet, and has a nice release. He’s smart and throws with anticipation.

Good on Kelly. I understand why Stafford might be pissed, but he knows it's a business first and foremost, and that this selection is nothing personal.

After all, we're not talking about Aaron Rodgers.
"Ooooh can't wait to see him on Kelly's podcast!!"

No one is whining or throwing temper tantrums, sport. Sorry someone with an opposing opinion bothers you so much. And I’m just going off all the reporting from today. Ian Rappaport said Arizona thought they were going to be able to snag Simpson with the 34th pick.

If someone already posted this I apologize. Thought this was an interesting comment…..

How do we know that only the Rams and Arizona were the only teams with 1rst round grades?

Two reasons.

First the Fowler piece from this morning. It said the main reason the Rams were so quiet about their interest in Simpson is because they didn’t think anyone else but Arizona had any interest in him as a first round player. But they knew once other teams realized Snead and McVay viewed him that way, everyone else would be after him too.

And second, the number of people who are extremely plugged in that said Simpson was falling to the 2nd round if the Rams didn’t take him. I saw both Daniel Jeremiah and Albert Breer make that claim today. Ian Rappaport said that the Cardinals were deciding last night if they’d have to trade up to 30 or 31 to land Simpson, or if they’d thought he’e still be there at 34.

I stopped reading posts midway through page 3. There are seriously 40 more pages of this? Already?
Oh there will probably be 40 more!!!

I think these guys have done some great work with their first round picks.

2017 Jared Goff
2018 Brandin Cooks
2019 Traded down...
2020 Jalen Ramsey
2021 Jalen Ramsey
2022 Matt Stafford
2023 Matt Stafford
2024 Jared Verse
2025 Traded down.....
2026 Ty Simpson

Not too shabby

Disagree. It's an important metric in evaluating any QB coming out in the draft. Not something you want to ignore. Going into the selection, and knowing what you're getting into in that regard, is valuable.

Simpson could very easily end up a backup QB at this level. He's got a lot to prove. He gives me Bulger vibes tbh, in that I liked how Bulger could win from the pocket (big element for me), also Bulger had smooth mechanics and was very intelligent. But on the other side as things break down he doesn't handle shit well. And as you consider that library of games he's actually started, you realize he's living on a lot of projection.

I think what McVay prioritized here is the fact Simpson can actually run his offense. And he's got the raw tools. He has some film where he's reading and making anticipation throws and the like. That stuff is valuable. But the sample size looms there, and we're not gonna see if he can sustain a high level of play until down the road when he gets a shot. At which time it is important to remember McVay kicked Goff to the curb due to his high standards.

We can keep arguing and rehashing this shit, as well. Or we can just move forward and hope the kid's got the goods. He definitely has a chance to be a starter at this level. Where we differ is on the likelihood of that, and whether it's gonna be enough for McVay.
I don't agree with you that it's an important metric. What you see on film will tell you much more than how many starts he has. People try to take these shortcuts and end up shooting themselves in the foot.
It’s not a silly argument. It’s an argument being made by plenty of people on television today. People who know ball. And Kyler Murray just got cut. And using the Pro Bowl as an accomplishment is for casuals. Shadeur Sanders made the Pro Bowl last year. Kyler played in 1 playoff game and missed a million games. And he’s got a video game addiction.
Plenty of people on television made the other silly arguments I mentioned. They love propagating these myths. Kyler Murray put up over 4700 yards and 37 TDs in his second year in the NFL. He was legitimately a good player earlier in his career. The Pro Bowl QBs that year were Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahoes, Josh Allen, Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson, and Kyler Murray. It wasn't at all comparable to Shadeur making the Pro Bowl because nobody wanted to go.
