I see nobody's calmed down yet. Some absolutely fucking unhinged takes on here, and that's coming from someone who initially hated the pick.

The strategy is clear. You can argue whether or not you think Simpson was the right guy to take a shot on, but backup QB was the most glaring need on this roster.
Not backup Quarterback, more like future STARTING Quarterback.

Do you seriously believe that McVay cannot overrule Snead and higher ups wouldn't take McVay's side? He's the franchise. Not Snead.
Yes I do. Everybody in that Organization has their lane. They consult each other but if there is a disagreement the man in charge of player personnel will make the call.

The presser McVay looked detached, however, the phone call to Simpson was better, but also does not come off that Coach was over the moon. As always I just hope they are right aa many diehard Ram fans across many channels get to know this kid and what he brings to the table each day.

I wonder if he will offer Konata Mumpfield money so Simpson can don #15. Not as big a Ferragamo, but like Ferragamo, has the looks befitting a matinee idle.

I want Ty in that 15. Like Ferragamo, like Mahomes. New number Konata......

Sorry but you're absolutely wrong I linked the pressers from 2024 and have watched other years pressers McVay is this way in those pressers every time. I linked 2024 because it was his only other 1st round selection. This is fans not liking the pick and convincing themselves something is wrong. I'm not sure what is so hard to figure out about the simple fact that if McVay doesn't want this QB he's not picked. So many people are insinuating that the Rams duo running the team is dumb and not working together. It just baffles me coming from Rams fans. Media and other teams fans I get but how a Rams fans think that McVay would get a QB forced on him by Snead is just amazing to me.

You are the king of this thread for getting that 2024 Verse press Conference reaction, OS.

He gave Arizona

Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame

Grade: D

I stopped reading after that! He’s a moron if he thinks that is a bad pick :-)

Charles McDonald and his takes have been horrible for years.

While a great player, the main problem with this selection is from a cap management standpoint, IMO.

Love now enters the league as one of the highest paid RBs before ever playing a down. Methinks they would have been better served shoring up the OLine.

Yeah, certain people refuse to accept that drafts are about the long term, not short-term solutions to immediate needs. It's why the Rams went out of their way to fill as many needs as they could before the draft.

Disagree. Looked like a normal phone call to me. I've seen enough of the videos over the years.
Do you like the pick?

Does anyone honestly think Mike MacDonald or Kyle Shanahan saw the Rams pick tonight and thought “ahh fuck they got Ty Simpson. Dammit!”
Does anyone actually think that the 49rs org were doing backflips and yelling “we got our future QB!”, when they drafted Purdy with the 262nd pick?

I don't think Les is the type of GM who shoves picks down his coach's throats, even if he had that power which I doubt he does. As I think the Rams are well aware that McVay is a rare head coach of quality and thus the power in this franchise. Keeping him happy is undoubtedly something that Les does very well.

As someone who didn't like the pick if I thought McVay didn't like it I would say so. But my read on it is Stafford probably wasn't too thrilled about the decision, when it could have been a weapon or lineman or defensive addition. So the last thing Coach is going to do is come to his presser and act all pumped up that they took a rookie QB in the first round who will be competing for backup duties.
Okay, I had not thought of that angle. That is very plausible. Still, I have to say, it looked pretty real. Maybe Stafford took it a little harder than expected. I hope it doesn't muddle the negotiations.

Yeah I don’t think I’ve seen a single draft grade higher than “D” for Arizona anywhere. It’s not a knock on Love. He’s a great player. It’s just that it’s organizational malpractice to take a RB that high when you have so many other holes elsewhere. The Giants just basically did this experiment with Saquon.

Think Charles has pretty good takes but yes agree love the player but bad process as they lose on the opportunity cost at a less important position.

I could be wrong. But McVay's clenched jaw and basic "no comment" makes me think Stafford was unhappy with the news.
Stafford is a competetive son of a gun and this pick did zero to help him get another ring, even less than another defensive player. Yes, he likely made it clear he would love to add to the offense and that conversation was probably uncomfortable.

I wanted another toy too @13, a day 1 contributor, but it took about 10 minutes to see the intent and value of taking the #2 QB in this any draft given the Rams current circumstances.

No fuel to the fire of McSnead being in separate camps. I don't see it

Now with Ty in the Ram house ....Rams now have a much clearer look on the Cap from this point. TY 's 5 yr cap $$ numbers is a set. The Rams front future financials can now engage forward on the immediate contract extensions of key players i.e.

Next years UFA's
Kevin Dotson
Puka Nacua
Warren McClendon
Kobie Turner
Steve Avila
Byron Young
Coleman Shelton
Colby Parkinson

The selection of Ty Simpson effects other very important elements in this Rams organization.

Drafting a Lemon WR would not of moved anything in this important functioning process of building this future team.

For the doubters: check out analysis by Orlovsky, Baldinger, Gruden, and many others who are sky-high on Simpson.

Bama had a terrible O-line, terrible run game, terrible receivers. Simpson was running around like a maniac making superhero plays.

Now Simpson will have a great supporting cast and a great system.

I bet most here are gonna change their tune on this guy.
I literally did not watch any college football this year, but from the highlights Simpson very much reminds me of Drew Brees.... hopefully Stafford and McVay can help move him in that direction.

I would think that there was a ton of long periods of action lack of sleep ongoing before this conclusion of selection of Ty .

McVay runs hot most of the time when tasks need to be accomplished .

I saw a HC that was worn down and now feeling calm comforted and at ease.

Mission accomplished!

Rams have a great QB room going into Training Camp ! I feel great about it. Only a few teams can come close to the Rams QB room!
Yeah.
I saw a couple of guys that have been working long hours, that are finally relieved, and can take a break for a moment.

They got their guy.

Was Simpson the guy I wanted? No. Was he the one I thought they might pick? No. But its not like I have a choice in the matter. And McVay is a guy who deserves the benefit of the doubt. So I'll be all in with Simpson now. Instead of picking the decision apart, I'll look for positive spins. He's our guy now. Expected to succeed Stafford.

If he becomes a franchise quarterback for a decade and wins a lot of games no one will remember how mad they were today. I remember when Goff entered the 2017 season after a disastrous rookie year. All we were hoping for was signs of improvement. We win the division with the top scoring offense. Went to the Superbowl a year later with an offense scoring over 30 points per game. So yeah, McVay deserves the benefit of the doubt. I remember the doubts with Stafford because he didn't win much in Detroit.
