Just watching all the pundits talk about the first round and all the talk is about how Ty Simpson hit the Jackpot, couldn’t be in a better situation, not how the Rams got a great player.

During the 2nd half of NCAA football, Ty Simpson was dealing with a lower back injury, cracked ribs, and elbow bursitis. This is the time when everyone was using this time to point out that Mendoza be better than Simpson.

Yes, I think there's a good shot that he was a backup option at 13 and that wouldn't have have precluded them from telling Stafford that it was a possibility.
Which means 2 things. Our Memento was right (could have gone Top 10) and Arizona was a real threat to go get him late teens.
Because Snead knew he was going to take Simpson at 13 if he was still there. And they had a really good idea he was still going to be there. Because no one else valued him that high.
Jay Glazier was giving interviews yesterday indicating he knew this was going to happen. He said he was going to make the announcement right before the pick was made and it was going to blow everyone’s mind and that’s exactly what happened.
I really fucking hate those rare moments where I agree with Prisco.
I think it’s the opposite. I think they told Stafford “unless someone jumps us for him, we are taking Simpson at 13”. And I don’t think they anticipated anyone jumping higher to get him.
It's a good match, period. I said in the Ty Simpson thread earlier this month that I like Simpson, but he really needed to land in the right spot if he is going to succeed. The right spot for him was either a McVay offense or a Shanahan offense because his strengths align well with those schemes. And look where he ended up. It's a good marriage imo.

McVay probably did tell him that. It's the most likely scenario.
I'll agree to disagree with ya on this one. If the conversation had gone reasonably well, I think McVay would have thrown in a platitude or two, and at least tried to put a vaguely positive spin on it. Maybe included a joke about how Stafford "knows he isn't getting any younger", etc.
I could be wrong. But McVay's clenched jaw and basic "no comment" makes me think Stafford was unhappy with the news.
But to reiterate: I do NOT think it's a big deal, even if Stafford was pissed. Stafford is a pro, and at the end of the day he knows he's 38 and the NFL is a business.
I suspect McVay and Stafford will have a conversation and coordinate a shared message of unity moving forward. But it wouldn't surprise me if Stafford had an initial angry reaction, and McVay was being respectful of this understandable reaction.
Again, no big deal even if true. McVay and Stafford obviously have a solid relationship.
Yes, that was my point. The Rams planned to draft Simpson. McVay and Snead wanted him at #13.
I'm going off memory here but I honestly can never recall any coach let alone ours divulging a private conversation with a player.
Any coach ever sorry just can't recall that ever happening especially with McVay.
I guarantee Stafford was pissed. I’ll take it a step further and say I guarantee other guys in the lockerroom are pissed.
Brady and Rodgers got pissed when the Pats and Packers pulled the same move at the end of their tenures.
I think.. for my sanity.. I might just go through this thread and block anyone suggesting McVay isn’t fully behind the pick.
