Again, I think he was just being respectful to Stafford by not looking overjoyed.
Simple as that.

...but hopefully after the pick Stafford didn't send him a text informing him of his thoughts of retirement. :wow2:
I think so too. I imagine Stafford wasn't over the moon about the news. You don't want to go out there popping champagne bottles when your MVP QB is unhappy about the decision.

Per Albert Breer:

“Rams GM Les Snead and UT-Martin coach Jason Simpson have a very strong relationship—to the point where Snead helped advise the family when Jason's son, Ty, was making a decision on whether or not to declare for the draft.

Now, Ty Simpson is a Ram”

Notice there's nothing in there about Sean McVay, all about Snead's relationship with Simpson's family. Again, watch the presser and tell me Snead isn't coming off as someone emotionally invested in this pick. He was the GM that told Simpson's family he was a first round talent as he was deciding whether to declare for the draft or not. I'm sure Snead wanted him and that's all fine and well but no one can fault fans for feeling like the pick was a bit of a reach especially considering the season we just came off of.

That's possible but he could have smiled a little saying we got a QB once Stafford retires.

Lemon was never a McVay player. You can tell by hearing him speak.

A 6th OL doesn't play. A 3rd WR would be part time. Sadiq would be part time.

So the whole "he won't see the field" argument is weak. And we obviously won't even sign Jimmy now, so Simpson becomes insurance at the most important position.

Others have said it - the single biggest aspect of this is McVay chose his future QB
Bain jr honestly would be better off for the team

And when he was injured, his team picked up the slack. His wide receivers stepped up, his defensive unit stepped up, and his offensive line stepped up.

Will he have a better supporting cast in the NFL? Absolutely. Will he have a better running game with us? Absolutely. But I will push back that Simpson had nothing, especially not when he was injured. His receivers all stepped up big-time in those spots, or Alabama wouldn't be in the conversation of the playoffs.

Saying that Simpson was carrying the whole team to victories is wrong, and you don't have to say he did to prop him up.
Well, I did not state he had no help. I stated the abnormal issues he faced that most Bama QB's don't face. The top QB in the draft didn't face many of these issues either. Regardless of what you think of Simpson, he played his ass off until he got banged up. He was considered the potential #1 pick in the draft prior even with some of these issues. Clearly he did not carry the team by himself, but they also let him down in several areas they do not typically. Especially with the level of talent at WR. Williams took a huge step back. From the cover of College Football 26 to leading the FBS in drops. That is a big dip.

TBH, Snead looks like he just did 10 rounds.

Something's up but I'm not sure that presser shows a normal Snead either.

This does make me wonder if McVay just knew that he didn't want to make Snead look like a liar to the kid and his family, and so he "went along" with the pick, as much as he didn't like it.
But who knows?

For what it's worth I think Snead really did want Simpson for a bunch of different reasons. In listening to him speak in the presser and Breer's knowledge of what went down between Snead and the Simpson family, I can't help but feel there were some non-football reasons Snead took him. The whole situation is just a bit odd but it is what it is I suppose. For better or worse, he's a Ram now and we have to hope he shapes up to be a good to great starter post-Stafford.

This is like seeing our SB window nailed shut for the next 5 years.
That's an extreme take. As much as I didn't like the pick the window is wide open for a couple years at least. One pick wasn't gonna make or break that.

It's a gamble for sure. Everything I've read or heard pretty much says there are no franchise quarterbacks in this draft aside from Mendoza. 13th for Simpson is considered a reach.

But we won't know for a couple years at least. I'm just gonna enjoy the season when it. We were the Superbowl favorites before the draft and were still the same tesm. Not picking who we wanted doesn't change that.

I'm hoping Simpson does turn out like they think.
