If Ty Simpson was a franchise QB, people wouldn’t be so surprised that we took him at 13. The betting odds have been for him to be a late first round, early second round pick for months.

He’s 6’1 and has 15 total college starts. This is a pretty unprecedented developmental project.

I’m way less concerned with what Mel Kiper thinks and way more concerned with what McSneed thinks

The Rams obviously thought he was the guy - and who do we think we are to argue?

When we traded with ATL last year - it was widely assumed that it was for a QB to take over when Stafford was done - we had a whole thread that lasted almost a year about it. We took one. It is our guy. Why not celebrate that?

Well color me very surprised. Does this mean they think Stafford will retire after the season?

I was hoping for a plug and play guy. The roster is stacked. They're ready to compete now. A receiver like Lemon or Cooper could open things up for Puka. Or a pass rusher like Bain would give them a very deep front.

Well, Simpson is a Ram. So I gotta pull for him to be our future. He is one lucky dude going to the Rams instead of a QB needy team that isn't built to win.

I was one of them. Not in criticism of Simpson, just the impact to our 2026 run. I felt we would stack the deck behind Stafford.

Stafford must be indicating he’s nearly done.
We had no needs for a starter. Yes we could use another WR but we can get one later. Look at our top WR's under McVay! Kupp in the 3rd and Puka in the 5th. We have McVay and we have arguably the best WR coach in the NFL. We didn't need to take a WR here. Would it have been nice? Sure it would have but it wasn't a need. IMO there were no needs. But we have no backup QB until this pick and we're better with Simpson as #2 than Bennett and anybody who argues that Bennett is better needs help.

Anybody we drafted other than Simpson is battling for his spot so this makes sense securing our QBotF and backup for 2026.

If Simpson ends up being a very good QB this is actually a very smart move. We don't have to spend a ton of draft capital next year or the next to move up to get a QB in future drafts. Saves us possibly a LOT of assets down the road.

Honestly, our team is so good right now there was no player we could have picked that would truly make us better this year. Now depth obviously is an issue at some spots and that's what we would have been drafting for... but we just drafted depth at the most important position on every team. So, meh. McSnead I trust.

Because the team is trying to win NOW. They just wasted a top 15 pick on someone who likely won’t see the field for 2 years. He is a long term project.

Well, welcome to the club, kid.

And uh, oh yeah, we'll most likely get a good receiver in the 2nd. And watch for a trade up.

If you are sick, disgusted, or otherwise disturbed by this pick, then don't ever, ever, ever say you trust in McVay and Snead again. They loved him, then it's the right pick.
I have never said I completely trust Snead and McVay when it comes to the draft because I hated the Tutu and Bennett picks

I have a pretty good track record in hating picks. I also hated the Hopkins pick as well.

I hope I am wrong but I doubt it when he can’t even last his only season in college football with 3 count em 3 injuries
