It was a glorified scrimmage. They ran plays that they basically rehearsed. All the throws were simple no risk throws that he should complete with his eyes closed.
Its not being harsh, its reality
Curious to see how this plays out
The first miss - I am thinking it was miscommunication by the receiver and the QB.
The second miss was a tougher throw. But he definitely underthrew it.
But his other 4 throws were either perfect or slightly behind the receiver but still caught.
I think you are underestimating the toughness of a preseason game because everyone is trying to make a name for himself trying to make the team.
Edit - However, I do need to resee the end zone throw on the all 22.
Maybe there was a reason why he underthrew it. That game had some of the worst replays.

Based on last game I would definitely not keep rookie T Keenan.
So 7 spots.
Of the guys who dressed Saturday I liked Lampkin, Connors, Blaske, Valcarcel, Presley and Bailey best. And Simpson of course.
Stetson looked awful to me. I like his moxie but that's it.

I didn't say it was a good game to watch since it is preseason but the players are playing hard.
I did not count everyone who did not dressed. I just counted starters and top-reserves (in my opinion).
So, that 37 did NOT include players like Ronnie Rivers or AJ Arcuri ... or even Justin Dedich.
Always some surprises at the final cut-down; and, unfortunately, a couple injuries also have an impact.
Agree on Connors and Presley but surprised you did not mention Andersen ... especially over Valcarcel.

So Rob Havenstein was a guest at the end of the Herd today. He was impressed with Simpson. He was also pretty funny.
First on Simpson, he said "he got everybody involved. Many times a guy going for #2 or #3 QB will pick a guy and target him. Simpson spread it around. A big thing is no pre-snap penalties. He got them in and out of the huddle and we're talking about backups here. They got him comfortable with some boots and roll outs. But he had a good game"
The funny. He was asked about AD and Garrett and he said he never went against Garrett because he was a left side rusher. But he did get scared the last time they played Cleveland. To start the second half Garrett was lined up on his side and Hav says, "what are you doing? You don't belong over here." But it was only 1 series.
On Donald he said he was surprised he was trying a comeback because of the way he left. "He said he was full. He didn't have the drive anymore. Didn't enjoy it. And maybe that's what's going on, he misses it after 2 years. Plus with Garrett coming over there's a good chance he's going to get a few 1 on 1's during games, which is something he NEVER got in his career. We may see Donald as a normal DT though he's anything but a normal DT".
On McVay, he said, "he makes you want to come to work. He loves his guys and his coaches. He's a genuine human being. His trust is felt and reciprocated. No animosity in the locker room. The way he sees the game is special. He sees it from a player's perspective. He's humble enough to make changes and he's fun to be around."
On the Rams/Seahawks last year, he says "we believed if we could have won that game, we would have got another ring".
FWIW, Matt Hassleback was on and he loved Simpson too. Said, "they got him comfortable and then later in the second half they let him loose and he didn't play like a rookie" He had more to say but I forget some it. It was ALL positive.

Simpson has a few more outings like this, little reason to keep Bennett around.

Funny you should say that. For those that don't like the media attention the Rams are getting as the SB favorite, don't watch FTF. On first things first, Greg Jennings, Danny Parkins and Jeff Schwartz were raving about Simpson.
Jenning said, "he proved that he can learn and he can execute. No credit away from Simpson but a lot of the credit goes to McVay. When a player steps to the podium and says, 'this is the most comfortable I've ever felt in a game', that tells me they made him comfortable. They leaned into who is he is and his skillset, not how we want him to fit into our system. You want to put him in a good position so he showed well and he did"
Swartz said, "I know some people want to give him a bust in Canton but preseason is about do the players check the box or is it a red flag. #13 player over all, Simpson checked the box. Did he look like the #13 pick overall? Yes he did. Check the box."
Parkins said, "I wouldn't want to be Stetson Bennett"
Swartz, "oh he's out. He's out"
Parkins says, "then that's not nothing. That's a little bit more than a checkmark. Can that guy execute McVays offense? He looks like he could"
Jennings said, "the Rams wanted to prepare Simpson and they did. The Rams wanted to check the box on Simpson at #13 and they looked and said, 'yeah we made the right choice'. To the Stetson Bennett point, he's a non factor"
Parkins, "you think Simpson's the backup?"
Jennings, "yeah he's the backup"
Swartz, "they drafted him to be the backup, he looked like the backup, he did a great job"
Parkins, "well that's not nothing then. That is more value than I thought Simpson was going to provide on draft day".
Me? I don't want to over react so I won't. He looked good, Bennett really didn't. There's more games and hopefully BOTH of them play. We'll see more going forward.
I think it is a very realistic move. Even if the Rams think Bennett is better. It could be another reason why they don’t play Bennett more in preseason.

I was thinking something similar. Brady trying to stay relevant. But really, that was pretty cool for the kid. Now put it back in the box, slide into the closet and get on with working to become a better QB.
