In your opinion what has he shown good and bad?
He drove down the field and got them a field goal on the second series.

Thing is - I don't really care for Bennett. I don't think he will be a good back-up.

But I try to look for both good and bad things from him as best I can.

He did have a couple bad throws especially on the 3rd down throw on the first series but I am wondering if the receiver ran the wrong pattern or the timing between them was off.

And the end zone throw was pretty bad as well. That one was 100% on him.

But he still got them close enough for a FG on a few good throws.

Edit - it didn't help that Hunter only gained a couple yards on the first two downs to put them 3rd and goal at the 7 yard line.

That is a tough play no matter who is QB.

In year 1 & 2 maybe. In year 4? Cmon man.... There are no participation trophies in the NFL
So he had a couple bad throws in the first two series. I have seen Stafford throw some really terrible throws too in the same series.

But getting a FG on the second series is not bad imho.

This seems like a decent assessment of things but I really do want a more accurate number 2 QB than him. Let's see how he does next week but I was kinda bummed our number 2 QB couldn't really offer much more than the designed roll outs, half field reads that we used to keep Ty Simpson in training wheels during his first few series.

Again, I think the equation here is: Is Bennett good enough to keep you afloat for 1-4 games. Anything more and you're calling Jimmy anyways.

Rams have expressed through Nate and others that they want to redshirt Simpson this year so I really think there's only a small possibility of him winning the QB 2 job - and this thought is just coming to me now - even if he is the superior QB.

Barring injuries, talented and deep rosters Will Lose good players.

I counted 37 starters and top-reserves (including Donald) that did not dress on Saturday.
Add-in the 5 draft selections, 3 specialists (PL, P and LS) and 2 QBs (expect the Rams to keep three)
... that's 47 roster spots, leaving a mere six openeings for veterans and undrafted free agents.

I agree. I even said in a thread that I am worried that we do not have a capable back-up QB.

But I also will say that McVay probably kept things as vanilla as possible and that probably hampered Bennett.

I have no idea what we have in Bennett now since we probably won't see him in anything but a vanilla offense.

I don't think his accuracy issues have anything to do with the scheme but I'm curious to see if it continues next week if he plays.

He only had 2 incompletions out of 6 passes. Maybe one completion was slightly behind the receiver but it wasn't a terrible pass.

That's a 66.6% rate with 0 interceptions. Not bad in my book. Not great but not bad.

I look at other teams and they would love to have a 66.6% completion rate with zero interceptions.

We are spoiled with Stafford and now Ty having a great game.

Edit - I bet he could start for Cleveland or the Jets lol.

accuracy and completions are two separate things

I did not like his accuracy on easy, short passes and staple plays in this offense. I do not like his mechanics. I do not like him Sam I am.

But, the only thing that matters is if the Rams think from what they've seen from him till now and through the end of preseason that he can break even on a 4 game stretch.

ok - that's fine - I don't like him either but I feel people are being unfair to him.

What a silly statement.
There isnt an excuse for him missing throws, it was a glorified scrimmage. He should make those throws in his sleep at this point. And the FG? They settled for a FG because he almost threw a pick.

I also think that quite a few people are biased against Bennett and look at only the bad things he does and none of the good things.

100%

With that said tho, he is not the future of this franchise. QB3 gets way less reps throughout the season during practice than does QB2. Unless there’s a plan to balance them out somehow, I don’t like the idea of him taking reps away from Simpson.

It’s a tough situation to be in because you want the rook to sit and learn, but you also don’t want to crush his development if Staff has to miss time…so put him at QB3 and limit reps? How does that develop?

There you go again. Making my statement worthless by accusing me of making a silly statement.

I will just have to respond with
the dude your opinion GIF

Comparing Stetson Bennett with 0 career NFL snaps and playing poorly in pre-season to Matt Stafford who's won a Superbowl and MVP? Yes, that is as silly as it gets

My opinion hasn't changed since we drafted him. His physical skill set and abilities make him a fine backup QB.

That said Simpson showed more upside, more mobility and more atm talent than Bennett has. Id happily keep Bennett as a backup though.

I was just making a statement that I have seen good QBs make bad throws in a series. NOT A SILLY STATEMENT.

And I didn't think he played all that poorly.

Two bad throws in two series with a FG attempt on the second series is playing poorly. That's being harsh.

Oh I agree he is not a starting caliber QB. Maybe a back-up. But I have concerns about him being good enough to be a back-up.

Yeah he's the kind of backup imo who is steady and knows the offense but he won't win games hell manage them. He also shouldn't lose games being a wild card.
