Has anyone really disputed whether or not McVay wanted to move on or not?

At least I'm taking about what may or may not have occurred due to lack of possible alternatives.

On one hand it appears that some believe the Rams can get whatever and whomever they want when they want it. And on the other hand some of the believe that not to be the case.

BTW, Cousins and Mayfield were still with their original teams entering the 2021 season. Darnold? Ugh... To go from Goff to a Darnold who looked like a bust after his first three seasons would have been an extremely hard sell for the locker room and fan base, IMO.
Yes you are correct that Baker was still a Brown. I just don't think Goff was one of the possibilities for the 2021 Rams, especially after both Snead and McVay said in interviews at the time "yeah, Jared's our Quarterback, RIGHT NOW."

I doubt Snead makes that statement without knowing that Stafford was huge possibility. Didn't the trade happen / get announced like a couple days later? No one can convince me that Snead / McVay went into that offseason with that team with the mindset of anybody but Goff no matter what.

It's sort of like how he hinted about trading a 1st round pick for a veteran prior to the McDuffie trade.

Yes, thats how it happened.

In closing, I think we can say there was a SMALL chance Goff could have returned. This, after exhausting, and I mean EXHAUSTING all potential alternatives.

Agree. McVay STARTED to be done with Goff Miami game, then was mostly done with Goff Home San Francisco game (Nick Mullens) then was FINALLY done with Goff NYJ (0-13) game.
I still blame Blythe for that Jets game. He was absolutely terrible on pass rushes up the middle and we all know Goff does terrible if you get a pass rush up the middle on him. His biggest weakness.

Okay, this is a little bit of a hill I'll die on here. This may well have been the case but there are times where McVay will send in multiple calls into the huddle and the QB chooses run/pass or modified pass play based on pre snap coverage. It would not shock me if one or two calls that came in during this series was like that and coverage determined that it would not be a run but one can equally make the distinction that McVay should just have sent in run calls that couldn't be changed.
With Goff? I can see sending in two plays with Stafford. And is the verbage short enough when you're under 3 minutes and have to hustle in the calls?
Yes, Rodgers had just won MVP, but was year-to-year with Green Bay and was dropping ambiguous hints about his future. This was his "the future is a beautiful mystery" phase, and yes, before Stafford shot out available Aaron Rodgers and Rams WAS heavily rumored.

There was no way, shape or form that Jared Goff was returning to Rams in 2021.
So that story was BEFORE they went after Stafford right? So if they don't get Stafford and Green Bay wasn't giving up Rodgers, who's the Rams QB in 2021? And I don't know a QB named Anybody B. Goff.

Yes, I guess I have to say there was a chance. McVay was definitely going to exhaust all options though and I would say 97% one of those options would have came through, whether it was Kirk Cousins, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold who were all off their originally drafted teams and floating in the NFL Wasteland at the time.

He was DONE with Goff.

1. BAD Super Bowl 2018
2. Bad 2019, missed Playoffs
2. Bad 2020, blew Division. Got fed up, went to Wolford.

Can't we just all admit that he didn't like him and want him anymore.....???
Oh I can admit that McVay was done with Goff. He didn't like how Goff handled pressure up the middle.

I mean there's some guessing on my part but probably yeah and with a lot of offenses there's either/or plays built into hurry up.

Yes, it was before Stafford shot out out of nowhere, available. Listen, McVay had had it up to HERE (My hand is placed an inch short of the top of ny head!) with Goff, he wanted a different gal. We've all been there.

It still hurts a bit.

Yeah.
He preferred playing LB in Pittsburgh's 3-4.
He wanted to rush the QB full time.
That was a bad free agency loss.
There were a lot of good players that left the Rams through free agency ... especially when the Team went bad in the '90s.

He did. The week after he was benched lit a small fire under his butt.

We lucked out that we were able to replace him with an Alpha competitor in Stafford.
And that was what annoyed me the most with McVay after that game.

He should have stated that Goff played a good game and is his QB .... for now (in Brick's voice)..

We might have not had to give up as much in draft picks for Stafford if he had said that.

I'm not disputing that. But without Stafford coming free, GBay having no interest in unloading ARod, who was a better choice.....Goff or Wolford?
Greene left via free agency
Yeah, I didn't remember the Rams trading him so I checked. Then I was shocked. A Hall of Famer released by 4 different teams (Rams, Steelers, Carolina, San Francisco) and suspended by 1 (Carolina in his 2nd stint with them).

Would have had more choices than just Staff and Aaron. Hard to say how the chess board would have played out.
