Our oline, as you know suffered through one of the worst injury filled seasons in recent memory.

My question is for you guys who truly pay attention and even rewatch games, just for the sole purpose of
studying our oline play.

My hats off to you guys. I used to do the same back in my coaching days. Watch one game
10-12 times focusing on different positions, with a lot of rewinding in between. Anyways........

My question is -
Out of this past chaotic season were there any particular players who flashed promise
mainly speaking about the guys that played in place of initial starters. Did you guys see anyone who
could be battling to replace last years opening day starters. Anyone?

Thanks in advance

I suspect few battles for starting OT positions at the start of the season, not really at Center either if Allen is healthy. I believe the real competition will be at both OG positions. Bruss is widely expected to start at RG, but he may face stiff competition from Anchrum, Brewer & Alaric Jackson who I feel will also be in line as the first reserves up at both OG positions. I'm projecting our new LG starter for 2023 will come from the draft, and be equally adept for consideration as a future Center. I believe we'll also draft an OT, but he is more likely our swing T this season, someone who can be solid moving between the left & right sides once up to speed, and a potential replacement for Havenstein or Noteboom in another year or two.

2023 Starting & back-up OL :

LT) Jackson, Nsekhe, Newly drafted OT, (Noteboom upon his return)
LG) New Draftee, Brewer, Jackson
C) Allen, Skura, New starting LG
RG) Bruss, Anchrum, Brewer
RT) Havenstein, Newly drafted OT

Aboushi, Arcuri, Pircher, Zach Thomas, Cole Toner and a UDFA will make up the OL Practice Squad competition.

Shelton, Edwards & Evans are gone with free agency.

jmo.

Starting with the first day of training camp, ( I was at most of them and kept a close eye on the OL workouts and who stood out during 11 on 11), and watched every preseason game.

Trey Anchrum was a rock at G. A Jackson did well at both LT and G. I thought Brewer showed very well also.

With the guys we have on the OL I would start Jackson at LT, Brewer at LG, Shelton at C, Anchrum at RG and Havenstien at RT.

Good luck Rams finding a better LT with their cap situation and drafft picks. I do hope they draft a C early, Shelton is too light and better suited as a backup IMHO.

Yeah we'll be debating this endlessly between now and June.

To my eye, Anchrum looked real promising. A smart player and a good man. Such a shame he got hurt so fast.

I'm hoping Scibelli, Mack, Cowan and Iman can make comebacks but I am a Dreamer.

For those of you who know what I mean there ... I love you guys ... be well and enjoy the Super Bowl.

To the rest of you ... Respect your elders, and Get Off My Lawn!!!.

What about 1975 1st round draftees Doug France & Dennis 'Herky' Harrah, since we're dreaming BIG?
Not to mention Rich 'Supe' Saul.

#1 is stop relying on injury prone players to start.

1. Sign a LG in FA to ensure the interior is good. This is important because we already have a second year guy being penciled in at RG and mediocre pivots.

2. Draft a Center to compete with and push Shelton. If they can find a Center who can beat him out then we'll see some shit.

I think that's bare minimum if they want this line to have a chance to be a positive. Having a LT of the future fall into our laps would be nice as well but I have given up on that dream for the most part due to an extensive need list.

Sadly we're gonna need to endure Jackson/Boom LT duo and pray one of them or the combination can get the job done over 17 games.

And don't forget about Big Bob Brown at Left Tackle. That was a great OL and a lot of fun to watch play....

Reference: Tremayne Anchrum is entering his final yr on his 4 yr contract. So if the Rams do get any dividends in return for paying & grooming him for 3 seasons this upcoming season looks ripe for him to start @ one of the open OG posts.

TA was active for 12 gms in his rookie season in 2020 & got only 28 snaps with the offense at the RT position. In 2020 TC & preseason, TA lined up at RT primarily due to the Havenstein injuries.

In 2021 TA was moved to compete inside & worked primarily @ RG/RT post in TC & preseason. TA suffered a Knee injury in the 2nd preseason game. He also started in the 3rd preseason game with that injured knee & aggravated that resulted in knee surgery & was placed on the injured reserve. TA had zero snaps with offense in 2021.

In 2022 TA was again working both OG positions in TC & preseason. We read positive TC reports from @bubbaramfan & others. TA did not play in the 1st preseason game but did go to start @ OG in the next 2 preseason gms. His play was solid & mistake free. Regular season TA went into gm #1 as the #8th reserve OL'er. In wk #2 he started the gm & on the opening play first snap he broke his lower leg.

Conclusion:

Positives: Has great size for an interior OL'er with a very mature solid strong frame. TA is a very versatile skilled OL'er capable of starting in 3 OL positions.

Negatives: 3 seasons TA has played only 2 snaps with the offense. Two seasons in a row getting injured very early & being placed on the injured reserve roster both years. TA would be only a one-year fix before departing for UFA'cy. Can the Rams afford to invest & depend on a starter like TA who has an injury history?

#1-LT/RT/LG- Ty Nsekhe-Currently UFA.
#2-LG/RG/LT/RT-Chandler Brewer- Currently RFA
#3-OC/LG Matt Skura- Currently UFA {Note: I would bring him back specifically for a possible reserve Center position.

Did you guys see anyone who could be battling to replace last years opening day starters. Anyone?
First I would bring up a very BIG question & questions as to which of the opening day starters will still be on the 2023 MR53. Starting RG Shelton will most likely exercise his option & enter UFA'cy. Starting LT Noteboom will not be on the opening season MR53.

In truth the Rams have only 2 returning 2022 starters...RT Havenstein & Brian Allen that would be battling. That leaves 3 position unknown.

Really like both of these guys. Especially Jackson at LT.
I know Noteboom is the starter, but he has a hard time staying healthy
and didn't play as well as he had in the past. No physicality to his game.

^^^^^ Sick and tired of watching our interior being walked back into the pocket.
Would very much like an immovable mountain at C position and a QB sneak that moves forward.

Maybe Noteboom contract not as terrible as I thought. If Rams choose to move on and grab some cap money
post june 1st cut or trade is an option.

Torn Achillis is a hard injury to overcome. I doubt Noteboom will be ready for TC leaving the job open for Jackson or Nesehke. I would prefer Jackson and have Nesehcke back up LT.
u
I could see Shelton signing somewhere else, leaving an oft injured Allen and a weak Skura as Rams only centers. They'd HAVE to draft a center then.

The Atwell/Humphrey draft looks worse every year.
