Not even a little crazy.
All three are excellent players. Kappa and Karras would both probably start ahead of any of the Rams guards and Collins and Havenstein graded out almost even.

Our Rams are adding two new starters.. one is a rookie.

All seems absolutely sensible to me.
Well... crazy people are typically not very good at assessing their own sanity.

Not sure which one of us that statement applies to, but I'll guess we'll see when the season plays out!

I commented about whether the Bengals deserved to be moved from the bottom of the league in pass blocking to (according to this ranking) the 10th spot, and you responded by comparing them to the Rams, which is a different issue. As a result, I saw little point in continuing our non-discussion.

Oh, goodness…. How could I?

I mean.. why would I compare the Bengals situation to the team immediately behind them in the rankings?

Maybe to show the ranking isn’t crazy?

The Rams pass pro was among the leagues best last year. We had - literally - historically good pass pro in the Super Bowl.

They rate Noteboom pretty high, so they're not penalizing us for losing Whitworth.

They rate Carolina's guards REALLY low, which means they're not penalizing us for losing Corbett.

So, this is fairly nonsensical.

Um, yeah... your logic is flawed. Simply comparing them to the Rams does not respond to my point.

The Bengals were 30th in sacks allowed and 31st in sack % allowed last year during the regular season. Thus, by those objective measures, they were in the bottom 2 or 3 teams in pass protection. To get to the Top 10, they'd have to improve to a point where they jump over at least 20 teams in the rankings.

Have they jumped over the Rams? Who knows? The Rams have 2 new starters. The Bengals have 3 new starters. How will they perform? How will they gel? Anyone's guess.

But the suggestion that the Bengals, by adding three guys - none of whom has ever made a Pro Bowl - will suddenly jump over not only the Rams, but 19 other teams....

I'm sticking with "crazy" on that one.

Love it. We were one of the top pass blocking teams. Now we're behind the Bengals. Keep on making the Rams underdogs

Nah.
The individuals they added rated significantly better than the players manning the same positions on the Rams & Collins rates slightly higher than Havenstein.

The Rams lost significant talent, though I have complete faith in their replacements.

Also.. Rams Oline in 2016 was one of the worst ranked pass blocking units in the NFL.. was in the top 10 easily in 2017 with only 2 additions.. one of whom was a reclamation project.

Cappa, Karras & Collins are all major upgrades for the Bengals.. and their LT has more of a track record at the position than the Rams current LT.

Will they BE top 10?? Who knows?? Lol.

These lists are subjective and guesswork.

But we’ve seen on our own favorite team how key additions to an Oline lift the existing talent.

Exactly.

Everything else you wrote is irrelevant to my point.

You're exhausting, so I'm out.

You should really post less if an interaction takes so much out of you.

This kind of retort is the tired act of someone who only wants to be praised for their clever takes.

Talk about tiresome.

They really like Alex Mack. Maybe they're assuming he'll compensate for his surrounding guards lol

That presumes he doesn't retire. He still hasn't informed the 9ers of his status unless I missed something... him retiring would REALLY hurt them...

Bengals look improved on paper. Doesn't mean much. I remember when people thought our OL under Spags was going to show great improvement after adding top free agent talent like Jacob Bell, Jason Brown, Harvey Dahl, etc. who had all performed well on their previous teams.

Yet they were still more trash than ever because none of those players meshed well together on the field. How it looks on paper doesn't mean much when it comes to the OL.

Our tackles rate well so losing Whitworth didn't hurt.

They rate the Panthers guards as trash which means losing Corbett didn't hurt.

Yet we're apparently going to have a significantly worse OL?

We all know that offensive lines are more or less than just the sum of the parts which makes a ranking like this completely irrelevant, and where they rank the Rams speaks volumes.

If we had Whitworth and Corbett we would most likely still be 11th based on how high our tackles rate and how low the Panthers guards rate.

Arguably the best pass blocking OL last year....

Yep, worthless ranking.

The Bengals made it to the Super Bowl last year and their coach worked under McVay.

I think there’s a better than good chance they improve a bunch.

No idea where you’re going here, to be honest.

The Rams have a rookie at one spot and a guy who played 175 snaps last year at LT. I trust the Rams completely… but it’s easy to make sense of those rankings at the moment.

The average Center Score is appx 54 which makes the 45 a slight bit better. I still disagree with Allen's rating

The attack seems weak.

If he goes by crazy take I’d say Infit that bill. Who is the one really judging those grades.

As a Ram Fan Joe Noteboom was having one of the best grades in like NFL history or something like that by Chris Collinsworth before getting hurt again or Whitworth taking his LT job back again.

At the time of Collinsworth praising him so highly I was like this is the worst thing that could happen.

Now that Shelton,Allen, & Noteboom are all resigned I see The Rams offensive line only improving with Bruss.
I was never a big Corbett fan & is crazy’s will find out how it all works out.
-Basically I can actually care less about how the Bengals OL looks. Bonifay’d did a right up about the 9ers so you can comment on how much better they are than The Rams as well.

Run blocking is a big concern. I can’t believe that Edwards will improve his run blocking playing alongside a less efficient run blocker than what Whitworth was. The Saffold/Edwards combo is a bit of a concern imo.
That run blocking concern is sure to have something to do with the change @ TE caoch with Thomas Brown our Assist Head Coach & now TE coach this season. The weak run blocking support turned in over the last half of the regular season & the four post-season games were in need of serious upgrading. Thus we see Brown assigned to attack & beef up this major deficiency.

Kyle Markway, Roger Carter, Jamal Pettigrew are newly signed TE's to this TE unit. Markway arrive here late last season in December, thus all three will be new to the Rams camps. Hopely one can replace Johnny Mundt's run blocking this year. The fact is both Kendall Blanton & Brycen Hopkins need to enhance their run blocking skills too.

I don't see McVay/Carberry remaining with a starting OG who did not improve in his run blocking from 2021 to 2022 season. Edwards is well aware that this is in his last season under contract here in LA. What he does this season will surely have a major impact on his NFL career going forward. Of course which will be calculated if he remains or goes. There is much involved for Edwards to achieve to have his best season in 2022.

I'll keep saying this.. as nice as it would be to see better run blocking.. I just don't think it's that high a priority.
Getting Robinson made sure that they would be able to go 4 and 5 wide regularly... I just think they're going to be even more pass-centric than ever. We'll see if that's the right call.. but, based on personnel.. I think it is.

Running will be more of a "keep 'em honest" concept.. and I think they'll run the ball well enough for that.
