This thread was more about Stafford's short-comings and limitations.

Outside of Liberator, I don't think anyone initially saw him as a clear QB-upgrade for the Rams.
No was talking about the thread Mojo had quoted from after the trade had happened. This thread wasn't too bad. I must have been on a board sabbatical that I sometimes take after a season ends badly because didn't comment at all. That's probably for the best.

Ah yes, always fun to go back and read all of the posts demanding McVay be fired and talking about how terrible of a coach he is. Like most gameday threads.
I remember being off the grid, hanging out with the gf all day and got the news very late.

My knee jerk reaction was glad we traded Goff, was absolutely done with his game. But I felt we traded for an old guy who wasn’t much better, and more #1 picks gone. I don’t care about the picks as long as it’s for a crystal clear stud player.

Then… I thought about that Goff contract, then I started digging into Stafford film etc. I knew by training camp that he was going to be a major upgrade. TEMPO was the key thing I saw getting better immediately. We even saw that with Wolford.

Yeah my take initially was typical of someone who never really watched his games. I felt like an idiot once I did watch the games because boy did I make some poor assumptions on him.

Keep learning that lesson. Always watch them play before throwing out the old opinion. :laugh1:

This one might be my favorite.

It's pretty easy in hindsight to laugh at all the takes on Stafford, the trade, etc. now, but things were not as clear in foresight for most of us here. Even a lot of people that badly wanted Goff gone at the time weren't convinced that Stafford was an upgrade.

My problem was age and injuries. Figured Stafford would be out by no later than game 8. Never been happier to be wrong.

I was ready to move on from Goff. Like everyone else, I was initially concerned about giving up multiple 1st round picks. But I tend to trust McVay and Snead, so I was reserving judgment until I had a chance to learn more about Stafford.

But I was on board within 24-hours. Learning about the significant cap relief was huge for me. But what sold me was a highlight video compiled by some Detroit fans... on Jan 31 I wrote,
"The toughness, the leadership, the insane skill, the football IQ, the way he's loved by his teammates... it's all here."

The Detroit fans "parting gift of Stafford highlights" can be found here:

I'm only laughing now cause I was laughing THEN at these takes. Albeit on a different message board.

I knew Stafford was the perfect fit. Easily worth all those picks. I knew for a fact he would take us to the Superbowl. The trade was a slam dunk, and I had no doubt.

Let the 9ers overpay for Stafford. No way I give those clowns a ton of draft capital for that dude. I'm actually worried now that we're gonna pull this off.

I just went through all of the posts, and I didn't comment once. The reason being that I wasn't comfortable with Goff but didn't know enough about Stafford to say anything definitive. Plus, folks were too passionate about defending Goff and it was getting nasty.

Still, it was fun reading through most of them, especially after Matthew led us to a Super Bowl win.

Something went on with Goff & Mcvay. IMO it was more of a WE thing & Goff was about ME. I’m sure Mcvay held Goff to a higher standard being the QB & having just signed a Big Contract before his 5th year(don’t like those deals).
How The Rams got Stafford imo, once again was a little shady.Seemed like a similar thing might have happened with Bobby Wagner ? Either way ?

Stafford was an upgrade & The Rams gave up a lot to get the deal done.Goff in Detroit is considered a journey man type of QB & not a franchise guy.I don’t believe that & think he is better than most of the talk show host believe.

Stafford had some ups & downs, but his 4th qrt. Performances have been excellent. He proved he is a winner.

The thing I’m most interested in is how Matthew Stafford fits with Liam as the OC.I also know Olsen was excellent with Jared Goff when he was The Rams QB coach. I also really like Zac Robinson & thing his NFL coaching career(future) is just coming into it’s young prime.
I didn’t like the first 15 play calling by Kevin O’Connell & Mcvay trusted in him to much.Raheem Morris coming back is actually perfect.Imhated all The HATERS!! Glad The Rams have a chance of getting those Comp Picks & just like Stafford,Raheem Morris helped The Rams win a SuperBowl.

Go Rams!!

What I really didn’t like was Kevin O’Connell & The Rams Philosophy was to get the ball down field & take chances.
IMO when Stafford gets into a rhythm he is at his best.Taking those chances is ok,but the timing, game management has to be right.
The cool thing is Sean Mcvay knows this & will adapt the offense around his players & OC(coaches). Liam is going to have a healthy Cam Akers & A.Robinson as a bign3rd down,Red Zone target.Van Jefferson will(can) still get deep.I look forward to Tutu Atwell being a threat as well.

This is the thread that is really interesting to me along with this one. I don’t know why it’s locked? You can’t even quote it but nevertheless…

I dont get what the hell is going on??? Is Stafford really that much better than Goff? All over the local LA radio stations and national media they all are dissing Goff like he’s the worst QB in the NFL. They treat him like the red headed stepchild. Is it because Snead and McVays recent comments about Goff insinuating he is not the guaranteed starting QB next season? BTW Les Snead is a POS-I’ve had enough of him ever since the Fisher days-I wish he was canned at the same time. He gives out shitty contracts left and right and gets absolutely NO BLAME!! Its not because of him that the Rams have been successful since 2017-its in SPITE of him. If the Rams trade Goff AND serious draft capital for Matthew Stafford Montana then Im done with this team until Snead is fired

We have a new "leader" in the clubhouse...
