NFL's most over-paid players

My problem with this list is that you're looking at a single year of a multi year contract. No player consistently lives off year to year contracts so why try to value worth off one year? If the norm was year to year deals then this would make more sense for debate purposes.
Jl got paid for his value to the team at the time he got the contract- it would never make sense independent of the other years and TTC.

Of course he was overpaid in the biggest year of his new contract. It's called structuring, this "author" should look up the word.

Interesting. Keep in mind that when we signed Laurinaitis to his contract, he was pretty much the only even "above average" young player on this team.

Re: Manning...even if you are an average to sometimes above average QB, once you win a SB (much less more than one), it is pretty likely you will be overpaid the rest of your career. That's just how it is.

Laurinaitis is overpaid but i'd rather it was us over-paying him than another team.

He's part of the Rams core, an essential part of the team - especially with all these young guns on board

And he's the leader of the defense, if he was a 49er or a Patriot he would not be on this list.
 
The Rams were smart and front loaded his and Long's contracts. That's why they look bad on paper. After this year he may be on the underpaid list. The Rams just structure contracts different.
 
Adrian Peterson being on this list makes me question the author's sanity.

As far as Laurinaitis goes, looking at one year in his contract is extremely misleading. As CGI pointed out, it was heavily front-loaded because the Rams had the cap space to do it.

Laurinaitis is a glue guy. He's only an above average player on the field...but he's the type of player that holds the team and his unit together. His intelligence, attitude, and personality make him worth a lot to the Rams.
 
Without JL, we would have to pay two players to do his job- A pass coverage linebacker and a run stopping line backer. So JL is a two for one bargain.

Unlike many NFL players, JL is durable and stays injury free. Kiko Alonso just ripped his ACL, and Patrick Willis may miss a few games, but JL keeps on ticking...err tackling.

JL passes the eye test, but flunks the Profootball focus test. All 4-3 linebackers are undervalued by profootball focus. It's just the nature of the beast.

JL doesn't make the head lines for late night bar brawls, wife beating, and Performance Enhancing 4 game drug suspensions.

JL is a seasoned team leader. The youngest team in the NFL needs grizzled vets to set an solid example and lead the charge.

JL didn't allow a pass coverage TD. The Rams defense ran a bend but don't break defense last year, and JL was a big part of the Don't Break Part.
