PWCs have almost ZERO rights on the water. They must yield to any, less maneuverable vessel....which is all of them..... Sans other PWCs. I had seen that video before (I subscribe to wavy boats) and those idiots were lucky they didn't get hauled in by the CG.
I have owned and enjoyed PWCs, but 95% of PWC operators are morons. I ended up selling both of mine after my friends son almost got himself killed on one of them.
I had 2 years ago too. One was a big ass 3 passenger and the other was a 2 passenger that I tricked out for insane power/speed.
Like a dumbass, I let one of my friends drive the fast as f one. We were in a natural spring called Silver Glen. Beautiful clear pure freshwater that comes up through the ground that stays at 72° all year long. It's always very crowded with boats of all sizes. My friend decided he was going to spin the ski to splash a load of water onto a teenager in a zodiac who had just squirted him with a water gun. This ski was so powerful, when he hit the throttle... he didn't spin, he fucking shot out of the water and ran completely over the zodiac with the kid in it whacking him in the head. Water cops gave him a serious ticket he had to go to court for and it cost him thousands.
I sold those fuckers soon after. If you don't end up hurting yourself or someone else on a ski... some other idiot on the water will do it for you.
Many boaters are completely clueless idiots. When you see a big very expensive boat on the water, many assume it must be being controlled by a person who knows what they're doing. Well, I've seen more damage/death and complete stupidity from captains of super big/expensive boats than jet skis. I could tell stories for hours about the madness I've personally witnessed on the water from the biggest boats and of course the jet skiers.
One of the biggest problems with jet skiers is that many of them just have absolutely no clue about the rules of the water. They rent a ski that can go 60+ mph and they've never operated one in their life. What could go wrong?
