Well, my folks have a Labradoodle that they're fostering, and I wanted to share a picture of him:

Fane's going to be the biggest and smartest of his litter, and he's constantly hyperactive.

My brother also got two kittens that are hopefully going to grow up together:

Black-and-white tuxedo tom is named Smoky; ginger-tabby molly is Amber. Both of them are fixed, and both are extremely affectionate and love my wheelchair, like all kittens/puppies seem to be like.

As luck would have it, my daughter moved to the mountains to be with her boyfriend. They can only have a big dog because coyotes will kill the smaller ones. So now I have her dog Roadie. She's a beautiful blue merle shetland sheepdog. Or Sheltie for short. Smaller than a collie.

Roadie's about 10 years old. She's a really good dog. Quiet. Friendly with everyone. Completely housebroken as long as I stick to her walking schedule. Since I'm the one who walks her several time a day she seems to have gotten quite attached to me. She'll hop up on the couch and put her head on my lap. She follows me everywhere. Sleeps on the floor on my side of the bed.

The problem is, I don't wanna get too attached to another dog. I don't know how many years she has left. I just can't feel for another dog like I did my beloved Guapo. Watching him die in my arms was harder than just about anything I've gone through. I don't wanna feel like that again. I'll show Roadie love and attention. I'll take good care of her. But I just can't bring that wall down. Maybe in time. I don't know.

We had a female Sheltie when I was a kid named Bunny. She was born on Easter. She was the normal collie colors. They are very smart and they are normally skittish of strangers and loud noises. If she's taken to you that quickly I would say that's kinda unusual for that breed... or you must be one hell of a dog lover. I'm thinking it's the later... Stop resisting Snack... she sees right through it.

If she's taken to you that quickly I would say that's kinda unusual for that breed... or you must be one hell of a dog lover. I'm thinking it's the later... Yeah, she's definitely easy to get attached to. And yes, sudden loud noises do scare her. 4th of July was like a war zone around here. I had to stay up with her till it all died down. She was having some serious anxiety that night.

I've always had dogs. So I am somewhat of a dog lover. But never got as attached to any like Guapo. I suppose its because for all the other dogs I was working every day and didn't spend as much time with them. I retired from state service in 2017. About the time I got Guapo. We were inseparable the next 4 years.

Whenever I went somewhere like golfing, my wife told me he would get separation anxiety over me being gone. She would call me at the golf course and put me on the speaker so Guapo could hear my voice. That used to calm him down after the initial excitement of hearing my voice. I could hear that yelp he used to have when he got excited over me coming home.

Roadie's getting like that. Whenever I come home she runs to greet me and starts twirling in circles. So I sit on the couch and pet her for a few minutes. She loves that.

But they all deserve our commitment to them completely. They rely on us for survival and it's a big responsibility. Once you make the decision to bring one into your family you have to give it that 100% commitment that you gave to your Guapo. What you get back from every dog will be different... but you'll feel their love when you commit. Once you feel their love... you will not be able to resist returning it back to them.

No dog will ever replace another though. Just like people can't. Don't look at her as a replacement for Guapo... that's impossible... look at her as a new family member. Everything else will happen naturally in time.

Someone once told they believe the reason God only gives our dogs a certain life span is because there will be another dog who needs us to take care of them. If Guapo didn't pass I might have told my daughter that taking on Roadie would be too much for me. We also have two other chihuahuas. Roadie makes 3 dogs. She's pretty low maintenance. But 4 dogs would be a bit much.

Who knows where Roadie woulda ended up. Small to mid size dogs have been killed up in the mountains by coyotes where my daughter moved. You want a big dog up there that can handle itself. If someone up there took her it coulda been dangerous. I'm fine with having her now. I guess feeling responsible for a life that needs me can be rewarding.

Dude - where the fuck's the water!

That's my dog at the Steamboat Canal these days. They shut it off over a month early this year and he runs down there on our hikes, looks around, and then back at us like WTF?

Speaking of funny behavior.

I had to bring my boat over to my new house for the 1st time last night. I'm closing on my old house this morning so it's been over there for several months. I've got a giant back yard and I can park it behind my fence on the side of the house. It's one of the reasons I bought this new house.

So Judah was in the house when I was dropping the boat over here. Once we closed the gate my wife let him out back. When he saw the boat it was like a kid walking out on Christmas morning. He circled around it wondering if he could find a way on. We came in but he refused to come in with us. He never does that. So we started making dinner. About 20 minutes later I look out the window and see him laying in the grass behind the boat just looking up at it. We all laughed. He couldn't see us or hear us. We went out and called for him to come in again.... he just plopped his head down in the grass and laid there. He guarded the boat for about an hour after that (an hour past his dinner which he is never late for)... then he finally came to the door while he continued to stare at his boat.

After he ate, he went out by the back door where he could see the boat through the windows and just laid there staring at it. He never lays there ever. We went to bed laughing when we saw him still laying there staring out. Guess where he was when we got up this morning. Yep.

Lol, I used to have this dog that was a golden retriever/cocker spaniel mix. He loved the water. I didn't want him going in the pool because he had long hair that would get in the filter. So he'd be sneaky and push a ball around the yard and slyly push it in the pool so he could jump in after it. My son dove in the pool one day while the dog was in it and when my son's head came up the dog bit it thinking it was a ball. Your dog kinda looks like him except his color was more a reddish brown.

Tons of hair. They make a mesh you can slip over the skimmer basket - thank god.
You wouldn't believe the hair that accumulates in one weekend ( 2-3 hours of jumping in the pool).

My cat rocks. We play fetch just like I would with a dog. I use nerf gun ammo balls and bounce them off the walls and he goes and chases them down then brings them back and drops it at my feet.

Roadie's been trying to work her way into my heart. She won't replace Guapo but she's definitely softening me towards her. She's a heartbreaker. Male dogs come up to her at the dog park and she looks at them like "In your dreams".
