Will Rams choose between Michael Brockers, Leonard Floyd?
Posted by Mike Florio on March 27, 2020, 8:17 PM EDT
The Rams are low on cap space, and they have pending deals with former Bears linebacker Leonard Floyd and nearly Ravens defensive lineman Michael Brockers. With the Floyd deal still not finalized, the Rams worked out a deal with Brockers, whose unsigned agreement with the Ravens fell through. Currently, both Floyd and Brockers are technically unsigned by the Rams, while they await physicals. Before those physicals are passed and the contracts become effective, the Rams will have to create cap space in order to fit both players onto the active roster.![]()
Will Rams choose between Michael Brockers, Leonard Floyd?
The COVID-19 procedures have created a wild west dynamic in the NFL, and things could still get even wilder for one of the teams of the NFC West.profootballtalk.nbcsports.com
It’s a loophole that has allowed the Rams to squat on both players while figuring out the best way to manage the cap and absorb the contracts. Or maybe, as some are wondering, the Floyd deal will be scrapped, now that Brockers is back, with a three-year, $31.5 million contract.
And it would be easy to avoid the Floyd deal, which pays out $10 million for one year. Rams doctors need to simply conclude that he can’t pass a physical. Also caught up in this potential mess is free-agent defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson, whose two-year, $17 million contract has not been signed.
However it plays out, the Rams are benefiting from the turbulent atmosphere engulfing normal NFL business, one that has allowed agreements in principle to be struck and to be held indefinitely in limbo until proper physicals can be administered. By the time that the COVID-19 pandemic eases to the point that physicals can occur, the Rams will either create cap space elsewhere (if players with existing contracts will agree to restructure), or the Rams will simply keep only one or two of the three players, telling Brockers and/or Floyd and/or Robinson that their deals won’t be finalized, with the failed physical providing the quick and easy “get out of jail free” card.
Therefore, like Brockers was, Christian is now back on the market![]()

So let’s play that out as it’s a very real possibility. Would Gurley be too butt hurt or the Tams too worried about damage done to settle on a 1-2 year contract with minimum salary but decent incentive $$$. Just spit-balling here. The article should be more this "Will the Rams choose Micheal Brockers or Robinson.
Rams will keep the all. I guess Gurley hasn't had his physical. If he fails it that would really change things.

yes the system is important. Remember how Brockers was our only real run stopper against the Falcons in McVays 1st year and once he got hurt we couldn't stop them in the playoffs? Since then it looks to me like Wade got to creative and Brockers ended up much of the time playing out of position. Also as far as Littleton, we have a lot of good DBs and our safeties are pretty good. When passing downs come up we can flood the field with DBs and because we have more DL beef we should be able to stop the long 3rd down runs that happened a lot of the time. I think Littletons loss can be replaced much easier than DL.So you would rather have Brockers (older) over littleton? I guess it would depend on the new defense.
As for the "against the run" comments I read on here, name a good run stopper who doesn't have a stout guy in the middle (NT) eating blockers. That's been an area of concern since they started moving Donald around and shifted Brockers to DE.
Pass coverage in general is essential these days and that's where littleton excelled.
But like I said, I guess it comes down to the type of new system they're installing.
Great example of the Sports Media over the top love & fornication with all the northeastern NFL teams. When Ravens signed Brockers WalterFootball gave then an A+/ When we resigned him he gave us a C.
The above would be Godzilla sized blow to the Rams Org groin area. That is a can of worms the Rams don't want to see. They would still be obligated to pay Gurley's contract. I'm not sure how much an injury settlement would cost. Either way it's not good for the Rams.
"The 2nd Gurley Contract" might end up being an entire chapter in NFL GM/HC university issues books being the best example on what not to do & to avoid @ all costs.
Not all of us were standing erect applauding when Gurley got his oversized contract. If you do a search on my position on Gurley's contract you will find my comments & thoughts were Gurley "certainly had earned it carrying the Rams offense on his back for so many seasons".And yet all of us gave them a standing ovation when the extension was announced....I've invested some great IPO's and some not so good....Shit Happens!
$3.83m cap hit this year. Seems a good deal for us.
