Typically, there will be a signing bonus of some size that would hit the cap in 2026 and future years, but that would be a very small percentage of the new contract.

Also, it's probably better for us that the large cap hits are in the later years because, at some point in the near future, Stafford's contract will be off the books and we likely have a QB on a rookie contract.

For some reason I'm still conservative / long-term mindset when it comes to the salary cap. Even with the increase it wouldn't hurt for the team to save quite a bit for the trade deadline or even to roll over into the following season to be used on some of the upcoming deals.

CB Chris Johnson didn't have the Quinyon Mitchell like Senior Bowl practice week I was expecting. Maybe he could be had later.

And maybe EDGE Derrick Moore is a top 45 player.

I wonder if I can flip them.

Working on post Senior Bowl mock 3.0 and I must admit, Lemon seems like perhaps the safest choice the team could make.

Would also help in the return game as well as take pressure off of Nacua on those underneath routes.

Still early, but seems the mocks show you can get CBs in rd 2. Of course you can get WRs there as well, but Lemon could be special.

He is Described as having the strongest hands in the draft. Kind of a mini Nacua. And again, could help in the return game, giving them a game breaker there.

So I am ruling out OT early since McVay sounded very pleased with McClendon during yesterday's presser.

If Love falls, maybe you can't pass up that kind of weapon.

Sony Styles is tempting, but I doubt they value LB that high.

Caleb Downs, would be an option if there, but they seem to be solid at safety, unless Curl leaves, then Downs could be the pick.

WR, Tate, Tyson, Lemon, if those guys are there, not sure the pecking order, but the bigger guys seem to be what the Rams were trying to trade up for last year in Tat McMillan. A wildcard could be Boston, if they trade back.

So yeah, these are the guys I see at play at 13...

RB - Love
WR - Lemon, Tyson, Tate
FS - Downs
CB - Delane, McCoy
LB - Styles

Not sure a top edge is left or a DT will be worthy of 13.

Then of course Simpson is probably a longshot, dependent on maybe Stafford's long-term plans, and whether Simpson really impresses during the pre draft process.

I agree. If the Rams plan to play the same amount of zone coverage as they have in the past using a 1st round selection on a CB who isn't clearly the BPA (within reason) might not be the best option. You just need solid to above average types that can tackle and the key is to improve the pass rush.

That said, of the guys you have in play, I would probably remove Love and Styles and add OT Monroe Freeling being unclear about Jackson's blood clot situation.

The question regarding CBs will be do they change their scheme a bit to deal with players like JSN in the future? Could any tweak change their view on the CB position?

I get the concern over Jackson, but of healthy, and playing great, you soebt a 13th pick on a guy who sits or you force McClendon out of the line up despite playing very well this past year. I grab a guy maybe at 93 or 61 if I have any concern about a back up OT. And or sign a vet FA with more of a pulse than Humphrey's had.

No idea what they plan to do with the defense. I'm just hopeful McVay brings in a new voice somewhere on that side of the ball that can show them the benefits of being more aggressive.

Freeling might be a backup for a year, but he might be your starting LT or RT. And a potential franchise OT at that. Plus, the team won't have to pay anywhere near the money McClendon is going to command in 2027.

True, it does save cap space by avoiding a McClendon extension, which also means spending money elsewhere, and potentially getting a decent comp pick on McClendon.

So in 2027, you could add a comp pick for 28', plus the abilty re-sign one of your other young players that you may have lost if paying McClendon, while locking in a high level young OT that could play left or right tackle.

So the ramifications do run deep and can be very beneficial in terms of roster construction. So yeah, a good point.
