There is a huge difference running that play at the 40 yard line and running it at the 10 yard line.

Defense can play a hell of a lot closer at the 10 yard line than at the 40 yard line.
That is true, but there were so many mistakes and poor execution throughout that game. It never should have come down to that.
It’s pointless to blame any one play. This was a typical Rams stinker that you could see almost from the opening bell.

Oh I completely agree. I was okay with a run play, I just didn't like the fact that they went into the strength of the defense on the right side. SF had 6 players on the right side. You see that - you run left. Plus add in the fact that McClendon was the right tackle instead of Havenstein.

Honestly based on numbers and alignment.. that run should have gained a yard. The issue was calling a run behind your backup RT and Backup TE for the game. They both barely got off the ball by the time warner got 3 steps in and blew it up.

Honestly mcvay doesn't adjust to personnel changes on offense. He's just like "next man up" and calls the same stuff he would if he had havenstein and higbee in the game. This has been going for years. How often have we had some awful backup at LT and we never chip or anything and Stafford gets murdered. I think mcvay only like thinks schematics and doesn't think about the humans. Same reason he keeps calling QB sneaks with an old QB with a bad back

OK something I was just reminded of by watching a Fred Warner Twitter video….

Why did the Rams win the coin toss in overtime and elect to kick? I was at the game and I was confused about that in the moment and haven’t really thought about it since then with all that happened….

But is that the new norm for teams to do or what?

New rule stating that both teams get a shot at scoring, even if there's a touchdown. So, if the receiving team gets a field goal or less, you have a shot at the win with the touchdown.

I don't fault McVay's thought process through overtime or going for it all the time on fourth down in overtime. The call was bad, but everyone makes a bad call. You learn from it. You grow.

And McVay has shown far more self-reflection just by saying he made an awful call than Martz ever did in his football life.

Ultimately, I'm happy he's our coach, and it's not like we're going to suddenly find a better one. No coach is without flaws.

What the hell!? How did I miss that new rule change that’s huge. Thanks for letting me know.

I get that he says he’s sick about the call, but why does he keep doing stuff like that?

If my memory serves me correctly, didn’t he do something similar against the 49ers late in the season in 2021?

He needed a few yards to get a first down to win the game and instead of rolling Stafford out, or calling a short pass, he ran the ball into the line and got stuffed. Wound up losing that game. We could’ve knocked San Francisco out of the playoffs with a win.

Good thing we won the NFC championship game. Talk about a bad decision coming back to haunt you. I can only imagine how we would’ve taken a loss to San Francisco in the NFC championship game. After having a chance to knock them out of the playoffs in the regular season and blowing it.

this is the only thing i remember about that game. the rams were all over the whiners in 1st half and were driving down the field to make it a 3 score game. when they got to half way mcvay ran the three most conservative plays, run or pass, that went nowhere. couldn't believe it. was he trying to be mr nice guy?

when the whiners got the ball back morris reverted to his usual try to not win mode, again mcvay mr nice guy, and the whiners got a fg before the half. made it back to a 2 score game and we all know what happened in the 2nd half.
