If they acknowledged they had met with him it didn't mean they thought he had "superior football IQ to be an upper echelon signal caller". It would just mean they met with him. All this talk about McVay playing chess vs the checkers the rest of the league is playing is overblown. The Rams got paranoid and didn't want STAFFORD to know. This wasn't about the other teams. No one was going to trade up to 12 or under to take Simpson. No way. We all know it'll take 2-3 years until we know if this was a wise move or not. So let's put the brakes on the Svengali thing for McVay.

Wasn’t he going up against NFL teams in the preseason?? Just saying.
Plus he is going into his 4th season as a Ram & most of 2025 training camp was taking 2nd string Reps!!
Then has 2 NATTY’s which in itself shows at the least being a winner.

I did make it to Dallas -Rams scrimmage last season,SO there’s that.Which was cool,but could only see the defense practice basically.
Stetson did look ok from a distance.Dotson & his Yellow Fro stuck out . Parsons was there & talks The Rams could trade for him.
His price was a little steep.
My Boy Troy Reeder showed up!! He did beat out POO-bear, Shawn Dolac did show he was the better LBer as well. I did say that much.
2026 is a totally NEW season & who that LBer is going to make The Rams roster.The Bama UDRFA could be that guy. Think Speight is a Starter as well ?? Shows there is a CHANCE for a player to Step up there ?
I’m looking forward to The Rams 4th string QB to get Reps. Who knows in 2027 he could be the backup to Ty Simpson ?? That is really looking forward.
Still I’ll keep saying Stetson is going to be The Rams starting QB game ONE of The Preseason.

Starting game 1 of pre-season isnt really a good thing. How many snaps did Garoppolo take in pre-season last year? The LESS one plays in McVay pre-season says more about where they stand with the team
Maybe. Maybe not.
But the difference is there wasn't a competition between Garoppolo or Bennett.
That may or may not be the case with Simpson and Bennett.
This time it may be that the less one plays in the final preseason game may be the tell.
I think the Rams will want Simpson to get as many "good snaps" as possible this preseason. He will need the work. He should start every game and let Bennett play the second halves. Or maybe McVay reverses that strategy and lets Simpson play against the 2nd and 3rd stringers? I don't know but I'm really looking forward to seeing him in action.

Actually if you’re talking Jimmy G ? He has played in regular season games & a Super Bowl for Gosh Sakes.What - beat The Rams at least 3 times if not 5 ? Twice a season a couple ?
That said I won’t look back at 2023-2024,but sure he started a preseason game ? Stetson Bennet was the starter last season mainly because of MATTHEW STAFFORD!!

All in all The Rams are in a BETTER PLACE before the Draft & having Ty Simpson on the roster to add depth. OF COURSE- The Rams QB of the FUTURE until other wise.

I think you’re comparing apples to bananas here. Grabmypole was a starter in the NFL for years. Ty has yet to play a snap against NFL caliber players not to mention run any of the Rams play book or with his current teammates. I think he’ll see action whether he is considered #2 or not.

This is such a good point and it's fascinatingly lost on some posters.
That being said, I hope and somewhat expect Simpson to get all the 1st team reps by the time we do joint practices* but given that he has a need for snaps in total we will also see a shift in philosophy and have him play some in the preseason.
*The team has time and time again said joint practice reps are more important than preseason snaps.
Is it possible that is wasn't really a good point to compare the situation of an established veteran QB or even other positions with two young QBs who are competing for a backup spot and needing as many game reps as they can possible get?
Or did you not see both Brett Rypien and Stetson Bennett play in all three preseason games in 2023?
And in 2022 Jon Wolford played in a one (missed 1st due to injury) with Bryce Perkins playing in all 3.
Sometimes these off season threads remind me of players in TC. There comes a time when practicing and hitting each other needs to be redirected at the real opposition.
