You and me both. God, I fucking hated Roger Staubach and Fran Tarkenton, and the one measure of satisfaction I get from the Rams facing those assholes is that both of them ended their careers with playoff losses to the Rams.

Kind of agree but, as disappointing as the NFCC losses to the Cowboys were in ‘75 and ‘78 (both in Los Angeles), Dallas was the much better team those days. My disappointment lies more with those Rams’ teams not playing better.

That’s also how I feel about the ‘85 loss to the Bears, and the ‘89 loss to the Niners. Those teams were much better than the Rams those days.

The 1974 and 1976 NFCC losses, along with last year’s Seattle game, were the worst for me. One game from the Super Bowl; and, in my opinion, the Rams were plenty good enough in those games to win them.

All three losses were essentially even / toss-up games that could have gone either way.

But I also think things usually balance-out over time. The 1999, 2017 and 2021 NFCC Games were all also essentially even / toss-up games … but were Rams’ victories.
 
We just didnt have the Quarterback position stabilized with a true FQ in the 70's, at least until Ferragamo arrived. And it showed up against those teams that did. The James Harris' and Pat Haden's of the world just couldn't measure up to HOF's Staubauch and Tarkenton. And then Georgia screwed up the Ferragamo situation real good to boot.

Didnt get it stabilized until Jim Everett arrived in 86. Between Gabriel (72) and Everett (86) it was shaky.

Haven't those wins in 2004, 2007, 2013 and 2018 overtaken the disappointments of 1975, the Dent HR in 78, 1986, the Boone HR in 2003?
I doubt it because despite winning 3 straight from 1998-2000, I was pissed Mariano blew the save in game 7 of 2001. And hell we even won it all since then!!

But for a team who has won just two of 60 Super Bowls, the Rams have played a huge part in NFL history. The Packers, Bears, Cowboys, Niners, Patriots are lauded as great franchises but the Rams have been one of the most trend setting, historic franchises in NFL history. And EVERYBODY is talking about the Rams this year!!!

We ARE a Historic Franchise. First team out West. First African-American player. 1951 NFL Championship gets overlooked but we had Bob Waterfield who was Kelce-like (married to a Starlet) and Crazy-Legs. Gets forgotten.

Then we got TOTALLY SCREWED by the archaic Playoff formats FOUR times, '67, '69, '73, and '74. And did not benefit even ONCE from it.

That '67 Playoff Game in Frigid Green Bay should have been played in L.A. in terms of WON/LOSS RECORD. We beat the Pack at Home we probably win SB II and we have a completely different history.

In '69 we were FAR AND AWAY the best team, had the MVP (Roman) and were 11-0!!! Only by virtue of KNOWING we were going to be on the road to start the playoffs, even though we had the best record, did we finish 11 and 3. That's another Super Bowl year.

Same screwing in '73. 12-2 Rams at 10-4 Cowboys, GTFOH.

If I am being honest, I didnt know enough about football to know who was better then. I just remember being upset and ripping on my McCutcheon shirt and saying Im never going to wear that shirt again. In retrospect though, I am in basically the same place as you. I remember just being happy to be able to play the Bears in 85.

What 'wins' are you talking about?

In 2004, the Rams defeted Seattle in the Wild Card; and in 2018, they beat Dallas in the Divisional Round.
Were you referring to those games? What were the 2007 and 2013 'wins'?
