I enjoyed watching the Rams this past season, even as they played through adversity. Had we played in other divisions, we would have made the postseason...

Perhaps, the biggest change this year, is we couldn't find a way to win close games or match our (perhaps, overly) high expectation

LA Rams were 1 FG away from post season play

In a game of inches, the LA Rams week 5 loss to the Seattle Seahawks 30-29 ended up as the difference maker keeping the team out of the playoffs
The LA Rams finished 9-7 in 2019. That was not good enough to get the team into the NFL Playoffs, and had already resulted in the team making coaching changes at the defensive coordinator and running back coaching positions, as well as adding an offensive coordinator. Despite some games where the team was clearly not competitive, the team’s fortunes would have changed dramatically had they defeated the Seattle Seahawks in week five.

Had the Rams won that game, they would have ended the season with a 10-6 record. They would win the tie-breaker with the Seattle Seahawks based on head-to-head meetings (Rams would have swept), and they would have won the tie-breaker over the Minnesota Vikings due to a better conference record.

That would have placed the LA Rams at Philadelphia for the first playoff game, and the Rams had plenty of momentum going in to win that one. In fact, the LA Rams path through this year’s playoffs would be at Philadelphia, at Green Bay, and at San Francisco.

WR Brandin Cooks caught one incredible pass, but left the game due to the NFL’s concussion protocol. RB Todd Gurley started out well, but had the ball ripped out of his hands by Seahawks DE Jadaveon Clowney, and was silenced in the second half. TE Gerald Everett and WR Cooper Kupp each had 100 yard games catching the ball. QB Jared Goff completed 29 of 49 passes for 395 yards. The Rams only rushed the ball 17 times (not included one QB scramble by Goff for one yard).

The Rams took a 29-24 lead late into the fourth quarter, but failed to make a stop against the Seahawks when the team needed it most. Even after the Seahawks scored, the Rams were able to move the ball into field goal range as the game clock moved under two minutes.

One season. One game. One drive. One missed field goal. Sometimes the NFL season is over pretty quickly. Other times, the season continues on into February. But 2019 season was so very close to something very special. The point of this is not that the Rams were robbed, but that this team entered the off-season already at a very competitive place. That is why the LA Rams should expect a solid season in 2020. The next attempt at a game winning field goal may be good the next time.

If if if.....
Easy to point to the Seattle game.
Heart breaker.
But, the Rams also gave up 55 points at home (all time high for the Rams in LA) to a middle of the road Bucs team.
Gave up 44 in a must win game vs Dallas.
Gave up 45 in embarrassing fashion at home to the Ravens.
A season long crippling offensive line problem bound the offense for much of the season.
The offense scored 3 points vs Pittsburgh.
The Rams turned the ball over at an alarming rate.
The Rams averaged under 4 yards per carry.
The special team unit collected flags, missed kicks and gave up a critical long kick return in another must win game at SF.
The Rams didn’t make the playoffs because they were inconsistent all year and simply were not good enough.
They didn’t deserve the playoffs.

I’m hoping and thinking this will be a blessing in disguise because we all know McVay is chomping at the bit to get things right. I think the whole organization is doing some self-reflection, but it starts with McVay. I think, based on the new hires, that we’re seeing McVay become a true Head Coach. He’s taking that next step.

We needed this adversity to right the ship. We aren’t that far off from being SB contenders.

True.
Because likely most of the fixes for the OL have to come from in house, the playing time for Evans, Edwards and Corbett may be very beneficial in the future.
Now, if the Rams take multiple personal losses in the offseason....say Brockers, Littleton and Fowler all leave....which is very possible, it’s hard to see the team contending.

Good read.

Yes we played poorly in some games and yes I'm disappointed we didn't make the playoffs, but I'm still proud of the team and think that we are not far off from contending again.

It is amazing how close we were to the playoffs and that shows how goddamn good McVay is.

But I like the way Coach reacted, and he sees things correctly IMO. Even had the Rams gotten in, they would have been a longshot to get to the Super Bowl. He's not effin around, has the highest expectations and a strong vision for what he wants, and it's going to pay off down the road for us.

The missed FG against 9ers wouldn’t have changed the game ?? The Rams didn’t play well at the end of the season ??

That all said it doesn’t really matter now. It’s about moving ahead, but The Rams aren’t that far away. I say that as well as some of the things don’t agree with. There are going to be so many changes that as of right now
The Rams are a .500 team.

What you lose you can always gain ??
I believe there are going to be some major changes that will happen. Jalen RAMsey,Peters,Corbett trades makes me think Les Snead is really working the phones.

The stealers game is the one that got me. I don't think I've ever been more angry during a game. Maybe superbowl 36.

There was a Pittsburgh game Lance Kendrick drooped a perfect TD pass
that would have beat Steelers.Barron took Big Ben out of the game. Vick was the backup. Gosh I stood up in the middle of a Steeelers bar only to sit back down real quick. WOW — cost me a lot of money.

Loss to the Steelers this season was a tough loss.

This was not the year for the Rams. Too much inconsistency and too many holes. I expect a more consistent more balanced team next year. Not just making the playoffs but making noise in the playoffs. OL , ILB and a complimentary addition to AD on the DL.
