Wade Phillips likes tweet criticizing Rams for letting him go
The Los Angeles Rams announced Monday that Wade Phillips will not be brought back as the team's defensive coordinator, but there is some indication that

I think that's a misconception due to Wade's hybrid 3-4, and we do have the bigger nose tackles, and I don't think you're getting any bigger with a 4-3 front anyway. Traditionally, in 3-4 Donald is a DE, and in 4-3 he's your DT, and in a hybrid it's really not much different because almost everyone is playing one gap anyway.Wade is a legend but I agree with the move . Question is do they stay 3-4 or go back to a 4-3 ?
Personally I like the 4-3 with bigger guys up front and putting more emphasis on stopping the run .
Should be interesting.
I don't think Wade was the "fall guy". I think this is about going with a different defensive approach that involves a 43 base defense.Damn shame about this whole thing. Hope nothing but the best for Wade. Yeah Defense was allover the place, but so was everything else. Just kind of feels like Wade was the fall guy in the grand scheme of things and others should share the same amount of blame. Good Luck Mr. Phillips glad you were a part of this organization...
Wade had more talent on this defense than probably any team in the league. Fowler, Donald, Littleton, Talib, Ramsey, Peter's, Brockers, Suh, Matthews... who am I missing? I'm sure Wade had a ton of say who he wanted on his defense. I highly doubt he failed bc he didnt get a high draft pick, which we havent had since hes been here bc we've been winning. We had a more talented team this season in terms of defense but we got blown out embarrassingly multiple times on national TV. Weddle has been a bust, Peter's is looking like the stud we thought we were getting in BMore but was a dud here, stopping the run has never been established, Donald is getting double and triple teamed yet noone else is benefitting, our secondary looks great at times and others they look lost. Then theres the head scratchers we had this preseason where we had what looked like a damn good find in an lb in Dakota Allen, yet we went with a slow guy in Reeder. If you are going to hold Wade accountable, why not hold Snead, McVay, and Kromer accountable as well? How do you separate one from the other? It seems to me that for several games we all lauded the way Wade would scheme/make adjustments after halftime. And how about that super bowl run last year, when the D carried them. And for the past 3 years, besides flipping the defensive backfield, quite frequently I might add, did the Rams ever give Wade a high draft pick for a linebacker or defensive lineman? Outside of Gaines, who is a rookie, I can't think of any other decent draft pick.
I understand that change is inevitable. I just like these guys when they become Rams, and it's hard to see them go. Especially guys like Wade Philips.
If Fisher was any good, he'd have had offers by now. It's been - what - three years? And he's said he wants back in.There will be no difficult transition to the 4-3, we never had the personnel for the 3-4 in the first place, and still dont.
And I want a BIG name guy, no 50% chance of success, I want a track record.
If it were up to me, I would hire Jeff Fisher, if he would actually come back as DC.
I was at the DAL game. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. After three years Ram's D still mid pack.
That, and those embarrassingly disgraceful performances against TB, Balt, and Dallas sealed WP's fate.
Have to do a better job to remain on McVay's team.
I like our HC's approach.
I'd trust Whit to decide when he is done. He's is on a decline but he was still damn good!Sign Whit to cap friendly deal with opportunity to move into coaching. This allows Noteboom to take his time to recovery. Sign a stud OC/OG. Starting lineup would be Whit/Note, Corbett, OC/Allen, Edwards, Evans/Hav.
I think it's all about where you want Donald to play, because I think he can be a total nightmare from 3T or 5T. Also, SJD proved this season that he is more than adequate at 1T and 0T with Gaines providing solid competition and possible 3T as well.
And I want him as a FB. No more wasting our time catching his breath while the offense is on the field. Earn that money Mister.I so want to see Donald lined up in the backfield.
Wade did get players, to the detriment of the oline. Unlike last year however he was unable to pull the d together for a playoff run.Wade had more talent on this defense than probably any team in the league. I understand some of this may not be all on Wade. There are a lot of coaches involved that together could be the culprit, but there is also alot that we dont see that McVay and Snead DO see. The fact that Wade was not extended makes me tend to believe that the things our defense was struggling with was probably majority his fault.
Good Lord, Belichick Jr. as our D Coach, can you imagine?
The conversation before next year’s Rams-Pats game:
Bill: Hey son, can you pass along those tapes?
Junior: Dad, we’ve been over this...
McVay is already reported to have struck a friendship with Bill.Well... Belichek's son is becoming quite a talked up coach these days. More so for his ridiculous haircut and the fact he sounds exactly like his dad when he talks. But he has also been part of that defensive staff that for a while was looking like one of the best all time for the first half of the season. But... can we lower ourselves to such depths? It would be an interesting pairing though between McVay and him.
When and where was this said by either of them?
