It's not that we don't like Kupp, it's that we don't like paying a guy 25 million a year to spend it on IR. If he was having 2021 type of seasons, no one would be calling to cut him.

When we gave out those HUGE contracts after the SB win, only Stafford and maybe Donald earned them. Kupp has been a burden on the salary cap by not being healthy.

Kupp Retire? are you guys crazy? he was on fire this season before he got hurt. Why are so many Rams fans so eager to send their stars packing? Last week it was Stafford that should be traded last season it was McVay that should go into the booth and now Kupp needs to go?

He's gonna have to restructure his contract. As good as he is not having him on the field the majority of the last 3 seasons doesn't do the rams any good.

They’ll figure out the contract. I don’t know how a Rams fan doesn’t want to see him in Horns for his whole career

Not to mention Kupp is 31. In his 8th season. Over 600 touches. A blocker on run plays. He's got miles on those tires. How much tread is left? When heavily used players hit 30 it sure seems like they get dinged up a lot more. They start to miss games. Hard to keep momentum going when you're not 100 percent. I think when he comes back Stafford should lean on him a little less and reduce the chances of getting hurt again.
Kupp could be a Player/Coach used sparingly over next 2 years. A weapon like OBJ for the Rams.

Gotta figure out how to make Kupp PART OF THE pass attack and not THE pass attack.
That's exactly what I thought. It's obvious he needs management and not targeted almost every time so he can thrive. And not so when he comes in they know it's to him. That's a tough one

25 million a year is indeed huge money for a player to not suit up. But look at what the elite WRs are getting these days when their contracts are up. The Justin Jefferson deal. The CD Lamb deal. Mega deals. Now, Kupp rightly should not command as much of them - he's at a different stage of his career, and even statistically, triple crown year aside, has lesser numbers. But when he plays, he is still absolutely a top tier as a WR. so the way these WR contracts are taking off, I don't think there is much reason to get worked up anbout the cap hit. We just have to hope he can avoid the injury bug going forward once he comes back. He got rolled up on and it hurt his ankle. It could happen to anyone. I don't consider that type of injury mechanism "injury prone", the way I do a guy like Keenan Allen with his chronically wonky hamstrings.

And let's not forget the way he blocks. The Rams are blessed with Kupp and Puka both being big, strong WRs that are very willing (which is rare from top tier WRs) and also very talented blockers. They basically function as TEs on many plays, which facilitates McVay not having to come out of his preferred formations very often. It is shocking how many snaps Kupp and Nacua are used to dig out LBers for example. I heard a stat that last week, was the first time, in all the years McVay started coaching, that the Rams a two TE base set. Not sure if that is true. But if it is, no surprise, it came with Kupp and Nacua were not available to do that dirty work.

People saying he should be cut or retire are NUTS. He still looks every bit of a top 10 WR. I am not seeing any signs of decline in ability just yet. Re-work the contract perhaps. But you don't just toss guys like that away.

Are you aware of Puka’s injury history?

I loved Gurley, but he was a gamble when we drafted him. Major injuries in college and preceding his being cut by the Rams, the knee injury was examined by team doctors and the decision was made that he couldn't be the RB he had been the first few years. RB's have a short shelf life anyway, so it was over.
Kupp has nagging injuries, but the decision that he can't hack it when healthy, hasn't been made. Except by impatient wanna-be GM's, possibly.

Is it just me, or when you see Kupp's face in that helmet, running with tacklers closing in, does he look like one of those Marvel or DC characters about to put a hurt on the bad guys?

Appears to be a good chance Kupp plays Sunday against the Raiders. Normally, I would be pleased. However, the Rams play four days later against the Vikings; and I do not like the idea of Kupp playing two games in four days.

Given the short week, I am hoping Kupp sits out the Raiders game, plays against the Vikings (one week from today) and then has 10 days of rest before his next game which would still not represent the mid-point of the Season.

My thought is use Kupp in the redzone where we desperately need him. Let the other receivers and the run game get us there. That'll limit his snaps to only a handful and let him get some work in and ready for the biggest test of the year against Vikings.

We gotta win this Raiders game, boss.
If we're spankin' them by mid-3rd Q, then ya pull him out. Otherwise, if it's still close, he stays in -- we gotta win this one.
AND the Vikes game too, which maybe we'll have Avila back? prolly not Puka tho, right??

Unfortunately Kupp is an integral part of our run game, as he's one of our best WR blockers at 6'2. Kupp is a good-sized young man.
That said, we could have other WR's doin' the same work until we get into the RZ. We seem to not have a problem between the 20's, it's just when we get down there we can't seem to get into the EZ. That's where Kupp & his mastery of separation gets us TD's.
