Does anyone have the feeling that this FO is still weary about holding onto players for too long based on how the Gurley situation ended? It just seems that since then, they are quick to let good players walk instead of waiting for the decline, which isn't necessarily guaranteed. Granted, I think it was smart to move on from Ramsey and Jones, but I don't know... I don't have that feeling about Kupp. I think he still has a good three to four years of high production in this league.
What? We're in the midst of Kupp's decline.

I know you feel like he's still WR1 but don't you suppose the Rams have looked at more all 22 tape than all of us combined? They obviously feel he's declining and it's time to move on.

He played 12 regular season games and had 67 receptions for 710 yards.

Over the course of 17 games, that would be about 95 receptions for 1,000 yards?

Not bad for a #2 / coach on the field / in locker room. Of course, he may never play 17 games in a season again.

The problem is injuries / salary.

I always wish he and Puka would "lay down" on at least 1st and 2nd down catches instead of trying to run through three guys all the time and getting hurt / missing games.

It helped Bruce and Holt last longer?

This is just unequivocally false. Throughout the last few weeks of the season, I posted several examples of Stafford either locking onto Puka or risking a throw to another receiver when Kupp was wide open.

Kupp will go for 1300yds and 10 TDs this year. Bookmark it.
The deeper question is why….why did Stafford keep the ball from him?

This hurts like the Gurley cut. But in both cases, everybody knew something had to change.

Gurley had a serviceable year in Atlanta but was out of the NFL after that. Kupp probably has two more productive seasons helping a young QB.

Mathematically it makes no sense to me. Cost vs Savings / Can you replace what he does with just the savings?

It's more likely that they'll double dip in the draft and possibly re-sign one of Robinson or Johnson.
I'm thinking they could double-dip AND sign one of those two and sign a Higgins or Slayton. They're losing Tutu (likely), Kupp.. and Johnson's a FA. Xavier Smith could stay.. or could be beaten out by someone.

I'm only counting on Puka and Whittington returning at this point.

I honestly dont think hes in decline. If you were held to being a blocker and no plays drawn up for you to ever get the ball, you would get no production neither. Hes been getting the pressure off of Puka with him being double teamed and Blocking for him. Puka is Super Puka because what Kupp does on the field. I seen him WIDE OPEN on alot of passes that went to Puka instead and failed, and he just held his head down. Maybe he said something, and complained about Coaching, and they are getting him out because of that? Who knows.

The Morale is going to be killed on this team with Kupp being traded! Might As well Trade Puka and Stafford with him. Take all the losses now and get it out of the way. We will not have a winning record next year if we dont go all in.

Either they are swinging for the fences on this off season or none of this makes since at all. Tee Higgins and Garrett come to LA

We are going to get a 6th or 7th round pick swap and some change savings for Kupp one of our best WR ever? No negotiating or anything? We trade him and get nothing to save cap 12.5M that will be going to Stafford. Said Team then gets better deal for Kupp, and Trades him to Sea or even worse 49ers. Then he kicks the shit out of us in a playoff game down the road.

I dont like the thought of Kupp being traded. I hope the Rams dont take a shit trade just to dump his salary. I just dont see any team giving up a 2nd rounder or multiple picks and taking on his salary. Hopefully the Rams will holdout for proper compensation and Kupp stays in LA.

The more I think about it I dont think the Rams get anything of value in return. Maybe the team is just showing him the market and that he would be better off restructuring.
The way kupp sounded don’t think they asked him

I get that people are upset.. he's literally my avatar.. but, he wasn't getting the same kind of separation.. and he's been injured a bunch. If you zoom out and are practical, the move makes complete sense.
Is there a chance he's healthy this year and does really well? Sure!
But there's at least an equal chance of him missing a few games and just being okay. That's not something you pay someone 30 million for. They need A DUDE across from Puka.. I'm thinking that's someone in FA.

We'll see.

Maybe the rams received a 2nd pick for him lol.

Kidding, but thats probably the only world in which that happens.
6th or 7th they gone send him where he wants and at this stage don’t think they they would get more then a 6th no matter what

How does everyone know Kupp refused to re-structure? That is my speculation as well. But that is all it is. Speculation. Is there a source?

Re: Kupp's leadership and mentorship, and how great it was for Puka, and how Cooper's value goes beyond pure statistics - I love Whittington's game and have been on record as thinking he is ready to be not only a starter, but a high impact one. I'd go so far as to say I think he can be a strong WR2 behind Puka based on what I have seen so far. Every time he gets the ball, he looks incredible. He seems to have the size, speed, hands, brains, and intangibles. All that said, I am still optimistic on Whittington, but a bit less confident now in a rocketship-esque ascendance, with Cooper Kupp no longer in that WR room. Puka is amazing but he is still somewhat inexperienced himself. And jury is out if he is a good teacher. Not all that can do can teach. Being frank, and this is all speculative just based on what I see via social media as an outsider, I do not think Puka has the same natural tutoring and mentorship capabilities as #10...
U act like they don’t have a wr coach

Goddamn it. You could just feel this coming but it doesn't make it hurt any less.

Two years in a row he got hurt and wasn't the same upon return. The Rams are trying to win a Super Bowl here. They ponied up the bucks but didn't get the return. Keep saying the quickest way off this roster is make more than you can earn on game day. Unfortunately those injuries stole a couple of Kupp's seasons and the Rams aren't gonna risk year three.

Also he's up there in age and he's not as quick as he was. So this is clearly a business decision. And I have to hand it to McVay and the Rams in that regard. They love the players but make the hard calls. Respect. But this one fuckin hurts.

Fair winds and following seas to you and family Coop. And thanks for great memories. :trophy:
