A long time away from the field.
I found the guy entertaining to watch play.
I don’t like politics or social causes or reality to infringe on the game.
All that said, if he earns it, good for him.
Wish him well.

I dont think so either.
People seem to forget, that it was Kaep that ASKED to be released by the Whiners, because he didn't want to have to fight for his starting job back.
He wasn't cut.

Alright! New footage for Ridiculousness

.

i wonder how many players advocating for his return will be happy about it if he joins their team and then they have to answer a hundred questions a day about what it feels like to have that saint on their team?

.
Really?

If he earns a spot on a team good for him.

after Goodell's comments that he would applaud any team that would give Colin Kaepernick a chance, I just have to say that this move wreaks of Spanos trying to score points, and it is eerily familiar. Remember when a sucky Rams team drafted Michael Sam?

I don't know where's he at in terms of his game, but I'd venture he's at least at the point he could be a solid backup for a few teams.

To be honest, I wouldn't be opposed to having him compete for Goff's backup spot given our inexperience in that role currently. Plus seeing a mobile QB in our offense with smart offensive players like we get might make for some exciting preseason plays, and if our starters aren't playing then might as well do something more exciting.

He does not fit the football smart profile McVay looks for. He would limit the O and become a cancer because if he made it to the roster it would not be because he earned it.

I don’t see how he would limit the offense holding a clipboard, but if he made the roster then he would have earned it. I wouldn’t be surprised because of our inexperience at QB, but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him get cut as well, who knows where it game is at.

I wouldn’t expect him to sign with us anyway, because he probably wants a chance to compete and play, and we’re set at starter, but if he did I don’t think McVay is going to just give away a roster spot for some PR. We cut Todd Gurley, any player who is on our roster earned it.

Very likely and plausible. I'm just not sure deep down he wants to roll the dice on being able to make a team.

Unless the Chargers carry 3 QB's which is unlikely I don't see him making the Chargers. They have their interim starter in Taylor and they drafted Herbert as their QB of the future. Kap would be strictly for publicity as he simply has been out of football too long to simply come in and compete for a starting position. Also, even when he was with the Niners his problem was playing as a pocket passer, i.e. the same problem facing Mayfield and Murray. Kap never showed he could read defenses beyond his first and maybe his second read. His INTs are testimony to his inability to read.

IMO that is why he walked away from the Niners. He was being asked to do something, i.e. read defenses that he simply didn't want to do. It's why he never went to Seattle to work out for them. I'm sorry but the narrative that the NFL turned his back on him is simply wrong. Kap walked away from an active contract he wasn't cut. He refused to work out for other teams when he had the opportunity. But he cries discrimination? At some point, it did evolve into that but it's not like he couldn't have salvaged his career a whole lot earlier. Both Mayfield and Murray are on a Kap projection in terms of being a one read and run type QB. Even Vick and Cam found out they needed to learn how to stand in a pocket and read defenses and one read and run works in college but not in the NFL.

Kap is a 2-3 year project. Kap is 32 years old. Do the numbers, his career was over the minute he walked away from Seattle's offer to workout. At best he can maybe provide backup duty for a few years. Will he be happy with that? I doubt it.

I think it'd be cool if the Chargers signed two 32 year old read/option QB's who haven't played in years.

Mr. Spanos, please sign both Kap and Tim Tebow to fight for roster spots. You want a circus, I got your circus

The whole "we'd sign him if we can" narrative is obvious garbage. The NFL wants to get ahead of Kaep and the movement once again. Simple as. It's PR for the NFL. I'd be shocked if a team signs him, though I can't imagine he's any worse then some of the backups, it just isn't logical. If they wanted to sign him they would have done it in 2017 when he was coming off a season where he started. He's now four seasons off and it's not like he was an elite QB to begin with. Serviceable yes but not elite by any stretch.

He's no better a fit for this offense than Bortles was. Inaccurate and brings a media shitstorm in his wake. We need a backup who can throw with accuracy.

Sounds like a perfect addition for the Chargers though...

I dont have links, due to the fact that its been years, but I do remember the Whiners still wanted Kaep to try and compete for the starting job. He just didn't want too.
He though that someone would sign him and hand him the starting job.

I would be surprised if we even brought him in for a look. He is not football smart, which is the main commonality of players on our roster. Look at his last play in the SB he was in, he throws the ball away on the last play of the game. That was the worst thing to do in that instance, you have to give your teammates an opportunity to make a play in that situation.
