Contenders usually use all of their cap, so they will be in the same position as the Rams

Its what everyone was saying. Contract, who eats the money, the Rams can't fit him into there cap, etc... It sounds like, if the Dolphins had announced their intent to trade Ramsey before free agency, the Rams would have had a plan to acquire him, or tried to. But so would some other teams. The Dolphins bungled twice. First with the contract, secondly by waiting too long to decide to move Ramsey.

Im going to keep beating the dead horse since that is what this thread is:

1) there is almost zero chance Miami just releases him. His contract for 2025 is guaranteed so they save zero real money and their cap is worse. Better off just fining him if he sits out. Almost zero chance. Stop mentioning that ‘option’.

2) yes, many factors on compensation in shared money between teams and draft picks, but the biggest ‘obstacle‘ and/or factor that we simply don’t know is Ramsey. Again, something happened between Dolphins and Ramsey for them to ‘mutually agree’ (you know, like when your girlfriend and you ‘mutually agree‘ to part ways and that it’s just not working because you’re poor). 9/10 it is because the player is unhappy money-wise and in this case, Ramsey probably wanted more future guarantees. He knows he is oldish and easily cut next year with worsening contract prospects. He probably wants a new team to do something similar in future guarantees and new teams probably think the same way the dolphins did, which is, good luck with that.

all that is to say, don’t forget about Ramsey’s input in the discussion and specifically, money!

Well I agree with you The Dolphins F”d up.I think there was NO WAY The Rams were ever going to give up much to get Jalen Ramsey.

IMO it has to be all (most) of the cards dealt in there favor.Look at Ahkello,imo the gets totally over looked by The Rams (fans & nfl)..

Shula knows it,but he also knows what Jalen can bring as well.He was his coach & they learned together.
That all said there was a reason the Rams traded Jalen.It worked out excellent.

Mcvay F’d up last season & he has to admit it.Like when Shelton wasn’t brought back & Ahkello.Both are RAMS again leading & mentoring players with & behind them.

Johan Jackson & T. White both cost The Rams games & money.There is a reason both are gone & #4 & #65 are back as RAMS !!

The only way I see The Rams signing Jalen is he is basically free.

Meaning FA or Dolphins eat his contract.Trading for him then might be worth a draft pick

The reason would be if JALEN is ALL IN !! Does he want to be ONLY a RAM ?? We all know Ramsey was HOF quality.He can take over games.

Sean Mcvay is not dumb and he is about relationships.Les Snead(rams brass) plays a part in this as well.There is a lot of respect & if Ramsey were ever to get into the HOF it would be a RAM.Plus the only reason he won’t go is because of himself.

Plus Mcvay will NEVER talk about about a player. He’ll always say the right thing & keep his cards to his vest.When called he’ll show his cards.If he is not called he’ll just throw them back in the deck leaving everyone guessing.

I disagree on point 2. He just signed a new contract to be the highest paid corner, this past September.

I think it’s more likely that he realized his team is poorly run and not going to win anything. Plus, Tyreek Hill said he’s not coming back at the end of the season. That likely resonated with him or maybe he’s even commiserated with Hill about the state of the team.

Fair enough, it could be disgruntlement over team outlook, future and culture. But I don’t think he would be the first athlete to sign a contract and then immediately regret it. it was a 3 year contract extension but only this coming season is guaranteed. So really a one year extension. All speculation is fair game, but the reason they fell apart is a big unknown in the trade equation.
