Besides, 2nd contract territory assumes that Stafford is playing 3 or 4 more years when he might even call it quits after this season.
Yeah sometimes not getting what you want can be a good thing in the long run. Draft picks are an educated guess, but still a guess. Teams have a ton of resources to use, but even they have no idea what's in someone's head or how they'll adjust to the next level.
I looked a lot at Klare's film after we made that pick. He's a poor man's La Porta, not quite as smooth in space but he's got some real nice physicality to him. And that physical side of things will help him in this division as well as the playoffs.
It's crazy how many years I've wanted them to develop a legit pass weapon TE and now they have two young and talented pieces for the pass game who will be settling in. And a great defense. I'm a happy fan right now.
I forget which interview it was, but in one of these (I believe) Snead said something about how we only end up with like 30-50 players on our draft board total. That is something that we need to keep in mind when we talk about BPA - because there could be a player, like CJ Daniels who we really like, and we ended up trading up because the other players on our board were going.

Some years ago, I read an account of the preseason game between the RAMS and San Diego (1977) after Bob Klein had been traded to the Chargers when LA had acquired Charli Young from philly. First of all, Young was a huge disappointment in terms of his production as he failed to beat out Terry Nelson.
But the real gist of this post is that preseason game when Bob Klein went OFF on his former team and, afterwards, in the post game camaraderie was approached by a RAMS coach (Knox, maybe?) and asked why he seemed to be playing with such a vengeance or something like that and he told the coach, more or less, they (Protro's staff) throw the ball to me here.
I read somewhere that Klein was the first 'move TE' in the league.
