I think, and pray, the deliberate patience shown by coach Fish is with the mindful intention of waiting on Coach Chud to become available.. Or else he just would've promoted Boras or hired Shanahan by now; no sense in waiting, right? Think about it, we were rumored to be after Roman, but didn't even interview the guy. I think Fish is holding out till all his guys get a chance to interview before a decision is made. I'm willing to bet front office said, "hey give that guy Chud an interview, we came away impressed right before we hired you!" I hope for a colts victory but waiting another few weeks for coach Chud would be brutal.

I agree. Three seasons of Shotty and basement offense told Fisher he needed to make a change. The QB issues were real(no fault to BS there) but so was the offenses inability to capitalize off turnovers and red zone TD opportunities.
I think Shott was persuaded out.

JMO
Nailed it on the head Mojo. Dude could script some damn good plays but when that script ran out BS could not adapt or adjust and looked very vanilla. He regularly was out coached and had no idea how to exploit the weapons he had and to reduce the weaknesses of the players he had. IMO that's part of your job as a OC or DC, to know what every member of your unit's plus and minuses are and set up game plans with them according to the opponent.

Yes.

And when you say "again changing OCs" what are you alluding to? Schotty has been in charge now for some time, three years to be exact, so let's not act like the Rams have been changing them every year.

Take a look around the league brother. Look at the injuries the Cards suffered. Both units produced quite nicely by coaching up the replacements to those who were injured. That the Cards' third string QB finally got them exposed in the playoffs is beside the point, btw, because at least they won a ton of regular season games and got into the playoffs. Brown was everything we hoped Austin would be, and you know what? IMO if you were to give Austin to Arians you would see why the Rams drafted him.

Anyway. Only months ago fans were crucifying Williams in spite of his history and record that demonstrates he is an excellent DC, with some acting like poor Walton was wronged since it's all about the players. But by now they should be realizing the difference between a DC who was in over his head and one of the best in the league. We need that on offense now and the Rams are in business. So, again, my answer to your question is YES.

Mike Martz, Scott Linehan, Greg Olsen, Al Saunders, Pat Shurmur, Josh McDaniels, Brian Schottenheimer, and the eventual new hire. That is insane. And every OC I listed have been bashed to some degree. At what point do we need to understand that it's NOT always the OC?

The majority of Arizona's games they won had Carson Palmer. A healthy offense that execute is more important than the name of the OC. Speaking of Arizona, how about the Rams' 3rd string QB? He was the one that actually had good games. Are we blaming the OC for Dallas and Philly; or was it more along the lines of not good defensive play and poor exectuion (I.e., Austin Pettis?)

To me, I don't care if it's some hot shot name or a nobody at OC. Nothing will matter until the players execute the basic plays.

If you consider Decker and Hawkins elite I guess you could consider Britt elite as well. They had worse QB situation we did and they put up better numbers than Britt.
i disagree on qb situations Hill wasnt that good.Britt was open a lot more then he was targeted Fromboth Hill and Davis. Hill missed him a couple times and a couple he connected on if he would threw it right would have been a td. Get a real Qb and Britt willget over a 1000 yards easily. I might be in the minority but i dont want hill back as a back up

The way I see it, there's 4 reasons top OC candidates might not want to come here... who knows which reasons mean more to which candidates.

In no particular order:
1. Uncertainty with team location.
2. QB uncertainty if Bradford gets hurt again.
3. Concern over how much Fisher's philosophy restricts what an OC wants to do.
4. Concern that the current regime may only have one more year anyway.
That's some list... and pretty accurate, I think.

I guess the bottom line will be how each candidate feels about the talent on offense.
* Got to figure they'd due their due diligence (check ou as much film as they could - I would).
* Go over the needs (holes).
* Of course, if they get the interview, they'd pick Fisher's brain to get a sense of how much autonomy they'd have.

I think it all comes down to their perceived opportunity to take that unit to the next level. That's how coaches get ahead, right? ... walk into a underachieving offense and make it shine.

I think whoever they land will tell me what outside, objective people think about the potential of out offense.

The higher the potential, the bigger the name... and the more willing to take the job despite the obstacles above.

I agree that Britt probably would have had close to 1,000 yards with better QB play. So would Decker and Hawkins. I don't consider either elite. Britt isn't a top 5 or even top 10 player at his position.

I believe people forget that many were definitely underwhelmed in 1999 by the hiring of some guy named Martz.

I was. Had no idea who he was.

Later, for one reason or another, I managed to come around to being comfortable with the hire. :D

Outstanding post, Boffo.

I might add that Fisher's excessive (IMO) deliberateness while considering hirings might work against us. Top candidates might get antsy and just grab an offer from another team while Fisher delays.

On a positive note, a desired candidate's salary demands shouldn't be a problem at all. Kroenke is no Bud Adams and has proven quite generous in that area.
