SF home is a must win game. I'll throw in the towel on 2024. Let's move into a post Stafford and Shula era. Mcvay made a mistake not hiring a proven DC.

I don't disagree here and I will be shocked if they win this week especially after the 49ers just dropped one to the Vikings. Overall, I am hoping with the number of injuries, they look into revamping the strength & conditioning teams along with the Training Staff too and make some major changes. Along with that goes playing the guys in preseason for a series or two, if they are healthy.

IMO, the amount of injuries in 2021 and this year gives the quantifiable data needed for these changes to occur. No other team has gone through this and it is time to look into other ways that could ensure your team is healthier not only on day one, but throughout the year and not just saying it is bad luck because luck is when preparation meets opportunity.
But wouldn't bad luck be the opposite of your definition of good luck? Something like bad luck = lack of preparation and/or meets lack of opportunity (through injury).

Sounds great until the first quarter when the Shitters are opening huge holes and making some random dickhead look like OJ Simpson.

In fairness McVay has never hired a proven DC besides his first in Wade Phillips. Brandon Staley was a linebacker coach before becoming a DC and even though Raheem Morris was a proven assistant coach, he had only been a DC in 2020 with the Falcons before being promoted to Head Coach.

Since 1990 32 of 279 teams make the playoffs after starting 0-2. That's 11.5 percent. Since 1990 only 4 out of 158 teams make the playoffs after starting 0-3. That's 2.5 percent. That is what we're up against if we lose today.

There's usually a reason why so many teams fail to make the playoffs after starting 0-2 and 0-3. They aren't that good to begin with.

I think we're good enough when healthy. But we're not healthy. At least on offense we aren't. Defense really doesn't have that excuse for being so bad. They gotta get better or this season is gonna go down the drain. I'm having doubts about McVay's choice for DC. Does he not have enough talent or is he overwhelmed?

Truth.

Though it is also true that we have entered a phase of this season where the offense is going to require the defense to carry them. Up until the OL is sorted and perhaps until we get at least one of Kupp or Nacua back this offense shouldn't be dominating anyone. So the heat is cranked up to high on Shula right now. He requires any and every edge he can find, which, well, I've said enough about Reeder. :laugh2:

I’ve been thinking about this season, and although it’s early in the year, unfortunately my gut is telling me we’re going to hit our stride too late.

My prediction?

If we lose to the whiners this week, we won’t be making the playoffs. If we win, there’s a bit of hope.

Unfortunately, I think we’re going to lose this week, putting us at 0-3.

We’ll start getting healthier mid way through the season, and start looking like a competitive team again in November and December.

So what’s the problem?

I think we’ll have lost too many games at that point to get into the playoffs. I think we’ll just miss our chance to sneak in.

I hope I’m dead wrong.

What do you guys think?
Not much of a prediction. A well known stat is if a team starts out 0-2 the chances the make the playoffs are bleak, 0-3 pretty much not happening.

They practically show this every season the second week show what’s likely to happen to the team that loses.

Yeah how quick this team gets its shit together will come down to health. This staff will win with players. They have proven that over and over.

Now Shula is a new name in that mix. So he has a lot to prove. But it's hard to imagine him failing unless they have major issues with let's say a positional coach (DL for example) not getting his room in order. Long way to go, we're gonna have to see how Shula responds to his ass being on the burner, because this offense is going to require a lot of support in the next handful of games.
