I know its greed, and I know it sucks. But have you looked at the amount of money being thrown around for live programming lately? It is a lot of money. I don't think there is any business justification for passing on that level of money. I know Goodell is the scapegoat, but there is no way he could reject bids like that.

Just saw the NFL awarded Netflix the Christmas Day games. Thanks Roger. In order to compensate his $50+m annual salary you now have to pay $70 a month for local broadcasting to receive in market games and Monday Night football. $16 a month for Amazon for Thursday night games. $389 for YouTube Sunday Ticket, and now additional money for Christmas day games if you dont already have Netflix. Goodell's personal greed, outrageous contracts (especially QBs) are making it difficult to afford all the programming if you're a pro football junkie. Is it just me or is anyone else getting tired of being fucked as fans as corporate greed takes over?
Kraft ushered in the new era of insane TV contracts. The internet and streaming services created the rest.

They're all greedy!

OK, I'll be watching on the free internet channels as I always do.

The list goes on for Godell and the sports world to make more money.

I can't imagine a world where I would wear a LA (Dodgers) Black hat. Now the possibility of watching a Rams game where they are wearing a black uniform. Just crazy to me.

It's your money.

Goodell has a new contract that calls for $200m over 3 years. Greed by everyone and the fans get fucked. I'm just venting about the expense of having to pay outrageous prices so a few can make millions. I am retired Air Force (enlisted), live on a fixed income, been a lifelong NFL fan, and can't even fathom going to an actual game in person anymore. Like I said, just venting.
Try Vettix.org for some nearly free tickets to a lot of events. Veterans only have to verify on their site and you only pay a processing fee. I’ve paid $16 for as many as four tickets to some events. I’ve seen NFL games available on their site before. Only catch is if you get the tickets, you must use them or get banned from the site for a time. And you cannot resell the tickets. They were donated for Vets. Not always the best seats but I’ve gotten lower bowl seats for UFC bouts, minor league hockey playoff seats at the blue line, etc.

I don't watch too much tv. Only sporting events really and those are reduced from my younger days. I am a gamer in almost all my leisure time.

Though I still pay for everything just about. I just cover the cost by rarely eating fast food. That was one significant change made in retirement. Slightly less income but I put more in savings each month even while getting wallet raped by entertainment costs.

It is a broken system, the trillion lost revenue from bootlegging, and the like hasn’t helped.

Like many other things we are seeing around us we need a reset of the way we digest media

The more we get our content illegally the more we will see price increases and alternative avenues.

I would go back to networks and adds in a minute.

The monetization of media is a wasteland of bad business decisions

The content on TV is the not American Football it’s the adverts. Getting people to pay to receive TV ads is as close to a racket as you will find but perfectly legal, and makes already rich people even more money through which to control politics and make your life worse, so it must be OK, right? :)

Whoever came up with the mantra that capitalism is freedom was a lying bastard first and possible genius second. That so many people actually believe it is something akin to idiocy. The NFL is a run like a mafia racket. In that sense it mirrors American society and what’s happening to virtually every society being hollowed out by corporate hegemony and greed

Let’s keep it light people

(Plus…I’m old. I watched football for nearly 2 decades before 1994.)
Yeah, Av, same here, but add another decade..

But we were also totally at the mercy of Network programming as to which game(s) we could watch.

There is only so much 'discretionary spending' money to spread around.

I was telling people several years ago that Professional sports will all be Pay per View before too long.

Who's paying $70 for local broadcasting?? That's what antennas are for.

GODell is just doing the job that the NFL owners hired him to do... and he is performing at an extremely high level.

Big businesses are in it to make big profits... The NFL is winning at business.
Owner apologist!

Goodell is a POS. Football makes a killing but they nickle and dime everyone they can. That shit is gonna bite them in the ass if they keep it up.

No it's the owners and players as well. Unfortunately most will always point at the top of the food chain title wise.

Its greed. No player, NONE should be making 50 million $ a year.
Why, it costs too much to take a family to a game.
A QB of a team should have a Ferrari and a Lambo in their 4 car garage.
But they don,t need 6 of them.
All sports are out of hand in this regard.
You know, streaming is a LOT better these days !

Couldn't disagree with this more.

Proof?

During Covid the supposed shortening of supply chains etc etc caused prices to go.

Now most if not all of them are back how many prices have went back don't?

It's only an excuse, once they get a taste of the money and power it will always be in their blood for more.

Don't kid yourself.
