Recent updates about Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s contract status have created an increasing feeling that Wilson is comfortable playing out the final year of his rookie deal in 2015 rather than sign an extension that falls short of his desired terms.

Doing so would create some risk for Wilson as a step backward on the field could leave him without an ability to get the same kind of deal that could be on the table right now. There’s also the possibility of an injury that would keep Wilson from playing at all and then have the same kind of deflating effect on the offers he’ll see down the road.

There’s only so much that Wilson can do to eliminate the possibility of injury, but he’s reportedly doing something to lessen the financial impact that a serious injury would have. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Wilson will play the 2015 season with an insurance policy worth millions that would pay out in the event of a career-ending injury.

Such an injury would obviously be the worst case scenario for Wilson, but it’s unclear what, if anything, it would do for him in the event of a less serious injury that limits his earnings if not his ability to resume his football career. Whatever it covers, the presence of that policy does add to the feeling that Wilson is willing to roll the dice without an extension this season.

I don't think I ever heard of insurance on a pro player....college, yes....hair, yes....not from playing the game...I'm sure their must be a similar circumstance, just can't think of one...

Playing qb in the nfc west is tough, and I bet the 1st team he thought of when he decided to do this was our Rams.I think he knows our defense is just about complete and they were brutal with him while building it can you imagine what they will do now.
