Thought I would kick this off a day early because there are Saturday games this week!

I'll be eating a delicious Steak Pie from our local butcher with hopefully several glasses of red wine. I'm visiting my old man this weekend, havent seen him much over the past few months for obvious reasons, so it's a great weekend in the ScotsRam house.

Have at it!

A Coq au vin braised with wine, lardons, mushrooms, and garlic. Add a nice Henschke Shiraz Hill of Grace and the 30 inches of snow on the ground will slowly fade away.

Questions -
what cut of steak goes into the pie?

are we talking a real pie crust?

how is it cooked...grilled, smoked, baked, broiled?

So in Scotland a steak pie is made with a puff pastry crust. It's like the pic you posted - you get a dollop of steak gravy and a bit of puff pastry on top.

In England (booooo) they have short crust pastry on their pies instead of puff pastry, and the only reason I can think of is because they are genetically inferior to Scots. Perhaps @HX76 can clarify.

Its normally slow cooked beef with carrots and onions through it. Traditionally served with some sort of potato - mash or chips being most common.

For today it'll be a rack of baby back ribs. My wife got them from a vendor about a month ago.

For tomorrow we are going to make homemade pizza.

Firstly that made me laugh, so thanks for that. Secondly I’m no pie expert but I’m sure we have both types of crust, in fact a pie and mash pie has puff pastry I’m sure of it.

My favourite kind of pie is hairy pie, I don’t get that much though!!

Now, now, let's keep this ever important pie crust debate civilized...

Oh, and I'll be making shepherd's pie here... Always good on a cold night

Just baked some hamentash (Jewish pastry with exposed filling in a triangular cookie shape) by myself. I'm sending most of the Nutella to a friend in Pennsylvania if I can (she absolutely loves them.), so I don't know how many will be left. But I'm excited! Will share in the Food Porn channel.

Tonight, for the wife, I am going to make fried bone in pork chops with lima beans and mashed potatoes, and a rice and shrimp burrito for me.

Tomorrow will be chicken/goat cheese enchiladas with black bean refried beans and rice.

Not today. We're doing KFC tonight. But tomorrow I'm cooking up some Jimmy Dean sausage. Mix enough pizza sauce to make it a nice and thick mixture. Get some sourdough sliced bread. Make a sandwich out of the mixture with some mozzarella. Brush butter on both sides. Cook in a sandwich maker that seals all sides. Sprinkle parmesan when its done. And voila! Mini calzones. Or I call them pizza pockets. Made a bunch of those with all the grandkids when they came over for Christmas eve last year. They all said it was much better than turkey and the traditional dinner.

I'll be honest as I read the ingredient list I did not know what to think but through the whole explanation I want to try them now.
