Article on preseason favorites like the Rams

So favorites rarely win? Is that a fact? Or is it an indictment of talking heads getting it wrong in the first place? Does that mean teams should not try their hardest to set themselves up for success? Not go "all in" for the Super Bowl? Making your team so good in the offseason only means disappointment in the end?

Well if all (or any of) that is true, make sure you wear your lucky socks or your undefeated jersey. Make sure you perform your pregame ritual to insure victory for the Rams!!!! Fact is that's all a bunch of crap!!! Nothing any one fan does has an affect on the outcome of the game. And nothing any talking head writes or says on TV has an affect on the outcome of the season. Maybe the more logical explanation when talking heads get it right, is it's just the broken clock syndrome or the blind squirrel example!!

Put your worries about jinxing the Rams away. Get that broken clock up on the shelf and sprinkle a lot of nuts in your backyard!!! If they play up to their capabilities as a team, they are going to be the wire to wire winners in 2026. And the Rams are going to make the talking heads look like Nostradamus, so they can all pound their chests and tell the world how right they were!!!!

It won't be Snead, McVay, Stafford, Garrett, Donald (???), McDuffie, etc. etc. and I'm fine with that!! How about you?

All that is true. Fans don’t affect the outcome of games… except me. If I wear a Rams jersey during a game, we lose. Period. The one time we didn’t, I took it off at halftime.

So I wear no gear during our games.

But yeah, all that other superstition stuff is just silly.

It's Math ... nothing more than simple math.

Whatever NFL team is "THE Favorite" entering a particular season ... say the Rams in 2026 ... their chances of winning the Super Bowl would be somewhere in the range of 12% to 18% ... say the average and make it 15%.

15% is Really HIGH!

That means "THE Favorite" is 85% NOT Likely to win the Super Bowl.

The Point is ... It Is REALLY HARD to Win a Super Bowl.

I'm just happy to be excited about this upcoming season. Sure the Lombardi is the grand prize but there are 17-20 weeks worth of excitement, happiness, jubilation, pride, etc, etc, etc, and this sure beats the Fisher era where they couldn't even complete a downfield pass (ugh). Enjoy the moment, Ram fans. It is STILL a great time to be a Ram fan whether we win it all or not.

Lastly... I was recently thinking that even if the team goes 11-6 or somehow just squeaks into the playoffs we can still win it all. The bottom line is that it's gonna be a long season... enjoy the ride.

It's not a good look for the Rams. They never lived up to their promise. From 68 till Mcvay. ( 1st superbowl was good of course. Lots of heartache and close losses and long losing years. Now, hope. But, yeah being the favorites did them no favorites. Everything and everyone will be gunning for them. Let's hope we can dominate on defense. That's our ticket.

This is fun.
I look at it this way. The Rams are the overwhelming favorite. So naturally, the negative reasoning is going to be there.

In no particular order:

"Favorites rarely win it all". The operative word there is "rarely" which means two things to me. Favorites do win it from time to time and this team might have a very rare aspect to it.

"We're gonna get EVERYBODY's best shot". So, usually opponents just lay down for the Rams right?

"They never live up to their promise". Okay this one is real. I've talked about watching the Rams and I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop because of the Rams history.....that 12 year trip through the desert. Or previously, that 1990's trip to less than mediocrity. We had about 4 years of TGSOT and that died a quick death. But McVay has been good therapy for all that because the shoe doesn't drop very often and that's because these Rams are different than the "old" Rams.

"The chances, in reality, are about 15% because winning the Super Bowl is extremely difficult". Another that is true. But what it really says is "the Rams have the best chance of all 32 teams, to win the Super Bowl" and who can possibly be upset with that?

Hey you gotta play the games to find out.

I just watched a couple weeks old segment showing our schedule. It was said, the start is very difficult and it is.
San Francisco, NY Giants, @ Denver, @ Philly, Buffalo. They were saying that sounds like it could be 3-2.

Then they were talking about the finish. Vs Green Bay, vs Kansas City, @ San Francisco, vs Dallas, @ Seattle, @ Tampa, vs Seattle.
That a real tough ending, though they didn't give a scenario for the record.

And in the middle there are the Chargers and Washington, who could be good.
So what they're saying is "it's a tough schedule". No shit???????? As opposed to what, last year? The year before?
Every fucking year the schedule is tough. It's the NFL and it's the reason the NFL is so popular. There are no cakewalk schedules and the team who ends up on top at the end has earned it 100% of the time.

Screw the worry about being the favorites. We went through better than two decades with a slight 3 year detour, where we were favorites to suck big time. Did anybody enjoy that? So why not enjoy this? We are the favorites to win it all. Let's see how that works out!!!

hey PA don't panic... i got your back...

should the rams stumble, i got that ice cold beer waiting, and i ain't afraid to pop it if needed....

sometimes you just got to get the lead out and go for it when the team needs you....

relax brother, it's going to be as memorable a year as 1999...

and we all know how that worked out...

go rams

Were we not the favorites in 2021? At least a favorite.

Either way, the Rams are the favorites for good reasons. I only worry in regards to the players losing focus when things get to good. I don't believe this will happen with this group and this staff.

The bug I refuse to vocalize is there every year for every team. So nothing new.

So for me I have decided there will be no worry until there needs to be.

This is fun! Go Rams!

We are definitely going to get everybody’s best punch, week after week. Teams playing their SB. I’ve noticed the Rams-hate ramping up on my socials.

I stopped predicting game wins and losses in the preseason at least a handful of years ago. It's funny how they never seem to go as many would think. This week, I was reminded of the loss to Atlanta, which impacted their playoff positioning. I had a bad feeling about that game with Morris knowing the Rams inside and out. It was being considered an easy win by many before the kickoff. Now he is the Whiners DC. The Rams are in the toughest division and conference with the 5th toughest schedule. The Rams know whats at stake and will welcome the challege. That's all I (we) can hope for.

They couldn't complete a downfield pass because the receivers almost never ran more than 10 yards in a play (especially when we had Bore Ass as OC).

The funny thing about that article is, we aren't even THAT big of a favorite relative to the rest of the league, historically, given how unprecedented this roster is.

That in itself is some hidden disrespect. This roster absolutely destroys the 2017 Patriots roster, for example, but they were a bigger favorite that year than we are this year.
