It's another stupid idea in the name of the almighty dollar.

Exactly right..........I hate this IMO the balance is perfect as it is and we se enough teams with shit records getting in the playoffs as it is.

The solution is expanding byes for the top teams if they add more contenders. That way the regular season still does matter, in terms of not having to play through the earlier rounds.

If they are going to do it that's the way to manage it. But me no likey!
 
They could have a round of 32 like the NCAA tournament, including every NFL team in a playoff, and the regular season still wouldn't be diminished. This is the best sport on the planet, with a limited number of games. This wouldn't change that.

I heartily disagree. There is a reason for divisional crowns, and make the reguklar season the sole decider of who is worthy of the playoffs. They weakened that somewhat by adding the Wild Card, by trying to mitigate the injustice of a team winning 10 or more games, and yet still didn;t make the playoffs due a strong division, and divisional winners elsewhere with barely 8-9 wins. How can you say the regular season would not be diminished if all 32 teams would be in the playoffs? To me, it would make regular season games worthless doing that.
 
I remember when my son will little. He played soccer. His team sucked and didn't win one game. Then they had an "all participate" tournament at the end of the season and his team won it all. :LOL:

Keep in mind Goodell was talking to an audience of Jaguar fans. He was just trying to give them hope. :sneaky:

Even if this is in jest, I liked it. And I have a proposal to make it work. All 32 teams in the NFL post-season tournament, without diminishing the regular season.
SOLVED:
For each conference, consider the 4 divisions with 1st through 4th place finishes
E-W-N-S
1-1-1-1
2-2-2-2
3-3-3-3
4-4-4-4

Week 18 (3s play 4s)
Week 19 (Week 18 Winners play 2s)
Week 20 (Week 19 Winners play 1s)

In this scenario, the 2nd place teams in the division get a 1 week bye and the 1st place finishers get a 2 week bye.

EVERYONE is in. Higher seeds get home field every time.
I hereby allow ROD to patent the NFL post season brackets for this new format. All glory to ROD. In ROD I trust. Amen.

Exactly. Goodell is just ruining the game. The guy is terrible.
 
I dont think we will see expanded playoffs until we see a league wide expansion to 36 teams

but what do I know

HORRIBLE idea.
I hate the thought of expanded playoffs, it just decreases the importance of the regular season, look at the NBA and the NHL.
Exactly how I feel.
I don't like it one bit.
 
I like the idea of 14 teams in the playoffs. The season goes by way to fast as it is. 2 more teams fan bases given the hope of getting to the superbowl would be awesome.
