We don't know if Boom is anything but a bench warmer at this point. Edwards also has looked solid at LT when playing there. TBD

I still think Boom can be a decent LT. But he's just not a good fit at G.

Some players are just like that. Some can play multiple positions on the OL, some are fit for only one position.

David Edwards to remain Rams’ starting LG when Noteboom returns

The Los Angeles Rams are set to add some depth to their offensive line soon, but don’t expect the starting lineup to change. After designating Joe Noteboom to return from injured reserve this week, Sean McVay said he won’t reclaim his spot as the starting left guard.

That job belongs to David Edwards, who has played extremely well in Noteboom’s place over the last several weeks. The Rams want to keep the continuity they currently have up front by allowing Edwards to remain the starter.

Noteboom will be a backup, giving the Rams flexibility at both offensive tackle and inside at guard.
Rams HC Sean McVay on what OL Joe Noteboom being designated to return from injured reserve means for the left guard position:
“It will remain like it is right now.”
McVay said David Edwards is playing well there and they want to keep that continuity.

Noteboom suffered a calf injury in Week 2 against the Eagles and has been on injured reserve ever since. He can begin practicing immediately and can be activated at any time, having spent at least three weeks on IR.Edwards exclusively played offensive {RIGHT} tackle in college but has transitioned to guard in the NFL.

When did Edwards play LT? Noteboom looked good there when he played in 2018.
Last time I saw Edwards line up @ LT was in several 2019 preseason gms. I have never see Edwards line up @ LT in any regular-season games.

I would not think it would be a good idea to play Edwards @ LT in this Ram offense.

I have no problem with this as I still see Boom as Whitworth's successor next year. Edwards is doing fine though he continues to miss occasional blocks. But I also think we will see him at RT next year. They can move Corbett back to LG and play Evans or Anchrum at RG. People have no idea how hard it is to play a new position when you have never done it before. Also, to make that switch in the NFL. Noteboom prior to his injury was playing at about the same level as Edwards is now so it makes no sense to make the move. The idea of disturbing chemistry on the o-line is legitimate.

The idea that Evans and Anchrum are OTs at this level is absurd. Evans lacks the feet to compete with the speed in the NFL and will be another marginal player at the position like Havenstein who continues to be exposed by speed. Anchrum has the arm length but not the height and also marginal feet to play OT in the NFL. Brewer should be back next year so he's another option at RT. Next year they should have a normal offseason and TC to make changes on the o-line.

I still think Noteboom has a future as starter at LT though he may need to bide his time and wait until his second contract. In the mean time he is quality depth

I think the experiment at guard has run its course. He is not built to play in a phone box

Rob Havenstein is not a marginal player at RT.
