No because the decision on Boom pretty much needs to be made before free agency even starts.Question is, if Rams lose both Dotson and Shelton, does that change the equation on Boom?

Which is completely false, because you don’t know what you are talking about. This is why I've been saying that they may have to cut Havenstein and Noteboom if they want to pay Dotson. Cutting Havenstein and Noteboom as post June 1 transactions would give them about $21M in cap space.
Also false, he is not signed to a contract he is signed to a futures deal which basically gives him an invite to TC as 1 of 90. Unless thru draft/fa they don’t need him and they’ll rescind.they might have re-signed Bruss to look at as an OT this year in OTAs and TC, He was signed as an OT not OG this year
Yeah, that's probably the next concrete news we get to our direction. Sucks that Boom is quite the asset when he gets to play but can't stop getting dinged up. But the good thing is when he gets dinged up, he usually doesn't stay out very long. Can we get him some kind of rubber coated chainmail to wear?No because the decision on Boom pretty much needs to be made before free agency even starts.
Didn't we just move up and down rounds?The Rams gave up a 4th (2024) and a 5th (2025) for Dotson, plus a 5th (2024) and a 6th (2025).
The thing is how the market would view him if he was a free agent.Yeah, that's probably the next concrete news we get to our direction. I know this has probably already been discussed, but what is the cap ramifications if you could trade Boom? Any chance of getting somebody with a lot of cap to eat a little on Boom? The thing is how the market would view him if he was a free agent.
If a team sees him as a starting OT, he would get a deal like what he has/had with the Rams.
However if he is only viewed as a backup/swing he’s looking at half of that.
I hope they draft both LT and C. And figure a way to reduce JNs cap hit. If we are going to have either a rookie center and/or LT, it would be nice to have experienced depth. The injury concerns will always be there even if he went 3 yrs without one. (Oddly enough when I typed that last sentence it said "hrs", not "yrs" ). But innuries could hit anyone. This kind of thinking lends itself to a ton of flexibility for the Rams and potentially a better Oline in the future. Drafting one of the top tackles after losing Dotson is a good consolation prize... which may turn into 1st prize at the state fair after a year or two.
FWIW, we need to draft a tackle this year no matter what with Havenstein's contract nearing it's end, Jackson probably needing to be paid in a year and losing our top swing tackle.
I don't think people realize how high tackle probably is on the Rams needs list.
What's the percengage on a mediocre OL protecting Stafford from injury for 17 games?I'd encourage you to read Thinking In Bets which Snead has incorporated into the Rams scouting and front office decision making process to get a sense of whether what I'm saying provides accuracy or not and the inherent value at play.
It's a safe bet to assume that Snead has used the same logic (though the data he has is greater than anything I have) to put value to Bruss's future contributions. I'd call it 70/30.
(Though, I imagine his percentages could be different than mine.)
I don't think he needs encouragement. I think he eats, sleeps, and dreams Havenstein getting cut.I agree but I don't think I encouraged him. Do you?
Same as if they cut him.I know this has probably already been discussed, but what is the cap ramifications if you could trade Boom? Any chance of getting somebody with a lot of cap to eat a little on Boom?
Would make sense too right? Being that McVay is talking continuity and all, it would mean that despite his OC a UFA, his RT a RFA and his RG a UFA that he’d obviously cut his LTI don't think he needs encouragement. I think he eats, sleeps, and dreams Havenstein getting cut.
Not at all. I just responded to your post as a link to the obsessive offender. Sorry if it insinuated encouragement.I agree but I don't think I encouraged him. Do you?
Pretty sure the terms are what I posted.Didn't we just move up and down rounds?
Yeah, the 3/18 date sure makes a trade unlikely.Same as if they cut him.
Dead cap hit of 15 mill + his 5 mill roster bonus unless he’s traded before 3/18
Totally misread what you posted and missed the "plus."Pretty sure the terms are what I posted.
I think they think of interior offensive line what most of us think about running backs. Sign them if the value is there. This could be the third good guard they've met walk under Mcvay which says they don't overly value it to me.What we don’t know is what the Rams think of Dotson (& Shelton) and their values. Maybe they don’t think as highly of Dotson and feel he was a product of their OL coaching and system. Maybe they do love him but his salary demand is crazy and they want him to realize that via FA. Maybe they feel better options all things considered. It could be any of those or even a combination. We’re using 5-25% knowledge at best (as we usually do lol).
Pretty sure the terms are what I posted.
Los Angeles on Sunday announced it has traded its 2024 fourth-round draft pick and its 2025 fifth-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for offensive lineman Kevin Dotson, the Steelers' 2024 fifth-round draft pick, and the Steelers' 2025 sixth-round draft pick.
