Every time I watch it I still get nervous that Perrine will catch it and Cincy goes on to tie or win game lol. Not sure why he didn't lay out as he looked uninterested in making a super bowl saving play?

Al Michaels tone lifted as he thought Perrine might make the catch and then dropped when he realized he wouldn't. One of Michaels least memorable game/super bowl winning play calls as either he wasn't happy or he's getting too old to revisit a "do you believe in miracles, yes" type moment.

I so wish that Donald had wrapped Burrow up and brought him quietly to the ground instead of grabbing him by the waist and swinging him around giving him the slight chance of making a play. That would have set the record for sacks at 8 which may never be broken and stopped us from having to hold our breath that one last time in that game while giving Michaels a better chance of a more memorable Super Bowl winning worthy call. "The Rams win by a yard"

I thought he could have made a play on the ball too. However there were like 3 or 4 defenders around him and he had to get thru them as it was 4th down. What I think happened tho was he thought Burrow was going down and probably didn't expect him to make that throw and he wasn't prepared for it

Thought it was a heads up play by AD to not whip him into the ground and possibly draw a flag. It's a shame that's what the league has become for defensive players but it was a smart play as him throwing him into the ground harder may have given them a first down. Last thing you want is the refs determining the outcome.

But as a football fan... yes I would have loved AD to just slam Burrow into the ground and then dry hump his lifeless body on the turf while pointing at the sky and his ring finger while screaming "THIS IS MY HOUSE!!!!"... ok maybe too much?

Yes that's why I said quietly to the ground. The 8th sack would have been extra icing. As far as Michaels, he blew it and sounded uninterested.

I saw the play from a different angle, can't remember where, maybe a YouTube video taken from the stands. But looking at it from that angle, it would have been a very hard if not impossible catch to make. Once AD got hold of Burrow, he effectively ruined any chance for the Bengals to make something out of it.

Pertinent probably wasn’t looking for the pass early enough to lay out for the ball. It happened too fast.

My son sacks like Donald by grabbing and slinging kids to the ground. It drives his coach nuts and it allows the QBs to through the ball away. I get that Donald is trying to avoid a penalty for a accidental helmet contact or whatever.
 
AD's takedown of Burrows was extremely satisfying for me.
If he was concerned that a straight on, soul crushing sack might get called as a penalty, I understand. I still remember one sack by Michael Brockers that was straight ahead, hard sack and it was called for a penalty. I''ve never understood that penalty because it was a textbook tackle, but it was like the QB hit a brick wall, which I loved. Think how upset we'd have been if a penalty was called on the sack and the Bungles got a fresh set of downs? It almost would guarantee a FG by that guy who wasn't missing. We could have lost game .

As for old Al Michaels, I was screaming my head off and didn't hear the call by him anyway.... :horns:

Lol, yeah as soon as Donald grabbed him I was jumping out of my seat and when ball hit the ground I started yelling we just won the f'n super bowl and whooping it up. It wasn't until the 30 times I re-watched the game that I realized how monotone Michaels was on the play. Too bad so sad Al.

There was an angle from behind Burrow. Petrine was moving/leaning forward and the throw was 2 yards to the left at a level that was at his feet. He wasn’t going to make that catch.

At the end of this you can clearly see the throw wasn't as close as it seemed.

I also want to add that the idea that Burrows on 4th and 1 would not have tried a much lower percentage play as a home run ball (sincerely shouldn't have) with that kind of time on the clock. Ramsey tripped up while maybe seeing that Brrr's was almost on the ground.

I thought Ernest Jones hit the ball away to the ground since he’s the nearest defender.
