I pointed out two guys. Any guess on when the other guy first started the 6th round pick? It's really simple it was right there in front of you from the get go you just chose to ignore half of what I said and argue with the other half.Just start making sense...
You point out Scott as a 7th rdr and being a starter, but leave out that he only started after injuries hit in the playoffs in his THIRD YR.
I mean let's keep it real.
I'm sure they did. He's a dude who has a lot of potential in a zone-heavy scheme if you can protect him deep. He has great instincts, pattern recognition, and ball skills. There are certainly worthy traits in his skill set.McSnead must have see something, eh.

I had to give a Fendi Onobun reference a Thread Winner. This pick feels like it is the biggest boom or bust pick - which for a 6th rounder is fine by me! I'm hoping that he is better than Fendi Onobun - that one still hurts!
And I said a late rookie starter that apparently we now need to replace?I pointed out two guys. Any guess on when the other guy first started the 6th round pick? You are comparing 3rd round picks with 6th and 7th rounders, where 3 of our 4 DB's were drafted. While they do draft for the next years free agents often that doesn't mean they don't draft for immediate needs. Hell our first pick this year will likely start right away after camp competition yes. We've drafted safeties recently that saw significant time in their rookie year. Jones won the starting job so we ended up trading Kenny Young our starter ahead of him. So yeah they do draft for the future but not at the expense of the present roster and it's needs.
I dunno jrry, can they really cover up and protect a corner with a 4.75 40? Mebbe he just had a bad day and ran poorly. What do you think?I'm sure they did. He's a dude who has a lot of potential in a zone-heavy scheme if you can protect him deep. He has great instincts, pattern recognition, and ball skills. It's hard to do if he doesn't slide into the slot. You can try to keep a safety over the top. But as we saw in the playoff game against Green Bay in 2020, if you're struggling to stop the run, you might need to bring safety help into the box. And that's when a CB who lacks speed can get burned.I dunno jrry, can they really cover up and protect a corner with a 4.75 40? Mebbe he just had a bad day and ran poorly. What do you think?

Well this is where we start talking past each other, which happens a ton with me and you. So I'll try again.
You said guys contracts were what is driving everything. I think you're oversimplifying shit.
The reason I think you're oversimplifying is because IF two of them had shown what the Rams were looking for they would be locked up by now, or about to be locked up. Rams keep the good players. They jettison the shitters.
You cited Scott, Rapp, and Long. Scott and Rapp are safeties, as well, so lumping two different positions together muddies the waters. Rams clearly addressed corner as a priority. If the corners Rochell and Long had killed it last year this draft would look a lot different. Because, again, the Rams keep the good players, they make room for them, particularly the ones they drafted.
And we have a pretty good track record on letting guys go. Only a couple I can think of that didn’t work out.JJ was awesome. SJD was awesome. Saffold was awesome.
We've let plenty of good players go.
IMO it's a combination of both - Long likely won't see the field, might not make the team.
But it's also true that were losing a bunch of players next year. And we needed depth for this year.
"According to Sports Info Solutions, Kendrick allowed the lowest completion rate on throws 10-plus yards downfield of any Power 5 player in the 2022 draft class. He gave up just five completions on 29 targets of at least 10 yards last season. Kendrick led a dominant Georgia defense with four interceptions last season. He also broke up three other passes and had a career-high two tackles for a loss, as well."
This Derion Kendrick stat should have Rams fans excited about the rookie CB

Who knows what we have at corner beyond Ramsey? Hill was competent. DLong hasn't been great. Rochell saw limited time last year and then was dinged up. He had two games where he played 83 and 95% of the snaps....6 solo tackles, 1 Int and 2 PD. Then he got dinged AND DWill came back. The jury is still out on Rochell. The two new guys sound like players but we'll see. I will say this, I feel a lot better about the CB room since re-acquiring Hill and drafting those two kids.
I like this take and may give more credence to why they drafted so much on the back end. Wagner adds a wrinkle to this defense especially in the run game to where maybe they are looking for something to complement that on the back end. More rangy ball hawking types.Couple of things.
1) I don't give two shits about some guy's 40 time. The Rams have his GPS data with respect to acceleration and top end speed and were clearly satisfied or they wouldn't have drafted him. Anyone still care about Kupp's 4.62? No? Hmmm
2) I think the secondary design is going to be very different with Bobby Wagner in the middle with Earnest Jones. I think the improvement going form Travin Howard to Bobby Wagner, no disrespect to Howard who I really like, is HUGE. I really don't think we're gonna be run on like in previous years where up the middle runs were so successful against us. I think we'll have much less need to drop a safety in the box as we have in previous years.
3) One of the things McVay and Morris prefer is to have versatility, so things like CB and S designations don't mean nearly as much as in other schemes. As well, as the season went on, Morris really finally started to get how to get this crew in this defense to be in the right places to make the plays they needed to make.
imho, ymmv
