I'd wait. Baun played 3-4 OLB for Wisconsin, but he's a 3-4 ILB for us. Think he'll be a stud there, but there's enough talent at that position that we can afford to be patient.

There is a pool of players that are first round talents and who maybe evaluated as plus players by the Rams. If so then we will probably trade up to get one.
If we come out of the round with an impact skill player and a starting player on OL or LB - no matter where we pick them - then today will be a success.

Are you keeping him inside for all three downs?
If not how much would you put him on the edge?
The reason I ask is that he is small for an Edge Lber and some here may think he is the answer to the edge pass rusher.
How good is he in pass coverage?
Here is one report that stated he had trouble at the Senior Bowl in pass coverage.

Career Snapshot
Two-year starter who earned Second Team All-America honors as a senior and finished second in the conference with 19.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks, behind only Ohio State’s Chase Young. Added 76 tackles and forced two fumbles during the 2019 season. Made 63 tackles (7.5 for loss) with 2.5 sacks as a junior. Missed the 2017 campaign after he suffered a foot injury before the season.
Positives
Undersized linebacker who flashes athleticism. Agile and breaks down well. Easily changes direction and immediately alters his angle of attack. Fluidly moves to any direction of the field and displays speed off the edge and in pursuit. Fires to the action, plays physical football and gives effort. Gets depth on pass drops and displays good movement skills.
Negatives
Knocked back by blocks or taken from the action altogether. Out of position last year as a 3-4 outside linebacker in the Badgers’ system. Looked terrible during coverage drills at Senior Bowl practices. Needs a lot of work on his game.
Analysis
At first glance, Baun projects as a weakside linebacker and should be effective in space. While he flashed athleticism throughout his career, his results during Senior Bowl practices dictate otherwise. Baun possesses the underlying size and speed to play at the next level, but he must really develop a complete game.

I remember you bringing him up maybe it was a mock draft. He seemed like a great fit the Rams/Staley's defense. I do wonder a little about him holding up in the middle as he is a little undersized. It would take a little time for him to get acclimated to the move inside. I appreciate your thoughts.

Yeah, but it gets worse. Not only did we miss out on getting Bobby Wagner and/or Mychal Kendricks but the extra 5th round pick we got in the trade down turned out to be one Rokevious Watkins. A true piece of junk and a loser to boot. I guess I should be over this by now but ya'll can probably tell I'm not.

At Snead? Do not recall reading that.
Now, I would expect that the GM negotiated the trade-down; and I can believe Snead recommended it. However, Fisher had to OK it.
Fisher was hired in January, and Snead a month later. Fisher was the big hire. Snead was hired to work with him. Fisher made the final decisions. That was their first draft.
Maybe Fisher was angry but he had to sign off. I did a quick check but the only article I found was a Mike Silver article about the decision to select Maurice Alexander (the purpose of my original post).
It quoted Fisher as saying he would be ‘angry’ if they lost Alexander. Demoff asked ‘how angry’ and Fisher replied ‘Bobby Wagner angry’.
No mention of Snead or blame.
I've seen him drop into coverage. They had him do it quite a bit in 2018. He can cover. I'm not a big Tony Pauline guy and have seen other reports dispute his on the Senior Bowl. How often would he play the edge? Occasionally in subpackages. I'd draft him to be a three-down ILB.
He can hold up. He's 6'2" 240ish. And he was more than able to hold his own against Big 10 OTs in college. He'll not only hold up inside, he's a guy capable of stacking and shedding blocks.

I had no idea that there was already a far superior intellectual mind here who had the wisdom and foresight to dawn the Dieter Brock moniker - tried to switch to 47Gap but was denied -- hence any confusion that may exist.
Oh and Dieter Brock never changes his avatar. He has yet to find a taker for the cat
I'm still not over us dumping Ron Jaworski....
If we move up, the only sort of guy I'd move up for is Yetur Gross-Matos. This draft doesn't have much EDGE depth.

Above Jrry sees him moving inside. He is small to be a Fowler type OLBer for the Rams. Don't get me wrong he can be good in Staley's system inside with his ability to pass rush. He isn't going to be as effective on the edge as he was in college. I don't think the Rams having a grade on him high enough to trade up for the price. There will be other options. Should he fall close to 52 than the Rams may think it's worth trading to get him. Better to wait and see how far he starts falling if he does.
