Still a long way to the start of the season. Great to get some insights early to help move things along. Shoutout for Bruss and some others. Great to hear the talk about coaches being good for the young players. Stafford to Atwell for a deep connection is great to start to get the offense going.

The knock on Hardy when he was drafted was his strength, so it was really good to hear that he has obviously taken that to heart. Hardy has a whole lot of potential and it looks like he is making strides. When Young was drafted I made the observation that the Rams love to draft based on traits and game film talent. I compared Young to Von Miller coming out of college. I know people didn't take me seriously, but I've seen video of him before the draft and OMG the dude is built. He's got speed and strength which are two important blocks to build upon as an edge. I can't wait till he hits the field for real.
It sounds like between Young, Hoecht, Hardy and Hampton they are already 4 deep at edge, all with excellent positional speed. Both Hoecht and Young bring strength and speed off the edge. Now add it Young and Hampton, they have little dropoff behind them. On passing downs with AD and Murchison inside the Rams will have speed across the board on their DL.
It sounds like the worked Hodges-Tomlinson outside which is where he played in college. If you are an undersized boundry CB speed is a prerequisite. Lack of length shortens a player's effective play radius so a short CB needs to play closer coverage. If they are playing zone then speed is a prerequisite to close with the receiver at the top of his route. That was the problem with Kendrick is he showed a lack of speed to close when in zone.
If the coaches can get Hardy and Hampton to be effective in coverage, they only need one ILB starter (Jones) as both WIL and SAM can be played by an OLB so I'm not overly concerned about their ILB position. Jason Taylor looks like their replacement for Rapp this year and Fuller next year. He's got good size and speed to play the SS position and he looked good in run support in college.
I genuinely like this year's team. They aren't bereft of talent as the media portrays them to be. Stupid media simply go by draft position ignoring the fact that the vast majority of 1st round players don't validate their draft position. If they aren't hit with the massive number of injuries they had last year, this team can be better than most realize.

Using some inference, it sure sounds like the starting line was Jackson - Anchrum - Allen - Bruss - Havenstein.
Jackson, cause Noteboom can't practice right now and they mentioned Anchrum, Allen and Bruss ("If he can hold that spot"). And of course Havenstein is gonna be there at RT.
Of course we all expect Avila to take the Anchrum spot. Interesting they didn't mention Shelton. Could it be that he's backing up a center right now and they'll focus him there?

I've already said the Rams have to carry Havenstein one more year due to his cap. They aren't going to carry a 32 year old OT with a $14.7M cap next year when they can release him at worse or trade him at best. Post June 1 release next year nets the Ram's $6.5 M in cap savings.
IMO he will have a short leash on him. If he has another Raider game type debacle IMO he gets pulled. The Raider game highlighted everything I've said about Havenstein, i.e. slow feet getting consistently beat by speed and power. A false start machine as he tries to get an edge.
This year they will have Jackson and probably Thomas behind Havenstein. Jackson IMO is everything Havenstein isn't.

Great to hear from JB and D, I am more excited now about the upcoming season with the draft behind us and some actual first hand information coming out.
Excellent to hear about the progress Bruss has made. The fire Akers is showing good to hear, it sounds like he wants it and that would be a big plus.

Okay guys then explain how Crosby made him his bitch in the Raider game. Explain why he consistently got beat by Carlos Dunlap in the Seattle games. Those guys aren't exactly elite talent. Good but hardly elite. Edges with strength and speed will consistently beat him. People on this board bitch about Noteboom but he's been consistently far better than Havenstein whom they ignore because they believe PFF who have proven they don't know shit about evaluating the NFL. PFF is for the media hacks who also don't know what they are seeing as well.
Havenstein is on the roster because of his cap number not because he's that good. This year Rob's being paid like a top 10 RT which he isn't. Next year he will be paid like a top 5 RT at 32 years old. They can't cut him this year because his dead cap is too high. They can't trade him because his contract is out of whack with reality. Next year a post June one release saves them $6.5 M. The only thing you can say about him is that he's durable.

I don't expect either Havenstein or Higbee to be on the team in 2024, both for age and cap the Rams have $1.7M in cap space which is why their draft class is unsigned. They will need over $10M to sign them. The Rams aren't done adjusting their cap. They will have to restructure or cut someone. Higbee is vulnerable because of his age and cap number. But they only clear $6.7M and that might not be enough. But if the new TEs look good then Havenstein could be on the trading block or released next month. Regardless I don't see him on the roster next year.
