Haven't heard much about him since the draft last year. Has anything leaked out from the coaches about how they feel about him?

They didn't draft a CB, so there's that, though Burgess is said to be able to handle the slot as a nickel. They were both 3rd round picks though one is Wade's the other Staley's.

Well his competition at CB2 is Hill, who can look like Michael Jordan one play then next thing you know he's gettin burned like Elvis "Toast" Patterson. And his competition in the slot is a rookie safety. A damn good looking rookie safety but still a rookie.

So if we don't see Long win one of those two jobs I'm sorry to say there's a good chance homey's a JAG.

Ya, I think Long will end up replacing Hill in the very near future. Please every Safety we ever drafted played CB at one point in time. Your safety's need to have some coverage skills. Plus you can be more multiple in Def.

Secondary is stacked as well as anytime since 2014. Darious Williams is a player and it's going to show when the season starts. I think he was the piece that made the Front Office comfortable moving on from NRC. They have 4 solid CB's and Donte Deayon at #5. With Burgess and Fuller rounding out the Safety depth, the team is well stocked for the next year or two.

That's all without hitting on another gem or two from the current UDFA crop.

They did draft a CB as I expected them to. When they drafted Fuller it was clear to me that Burgess will play as a CB not a safety. I expect him to take over the nickel duties this year. He's insurance in case they can't sign Ramsey to an extension. Very good pick. Fuller looks like a backup to Rapp as he doesn't look to have the speed to play FS.

Burgess also provides them with quality depth behind John Johnson at FS. Burgess gives them a very flexible secondary. If they lose either boundary CB or Johnson they have a more than capable backup. Meanwhile, he can start at slot CB and will see significant snaps there considering who is in the NFCW. This was a very savvy pick.

I really like the Ram secondary right now. IMO Fuller's best chance to make the team is on STs while he trains and gets coached up improving his technique.

Make no mistake David Long and Ramsey will be the starting boundary CB.

I’m thinking that Long might be getting some snaps in Hill’s place. Maybe a LOT of them.

Don’t worry about David Long, y’all.

This is what I'm inclined to think. Hill and Long will battle it out for starting duty across from Ramey. Hill is decent and I suspect he wins the job but I hope Long does. Don't think Long has the quickness to play nickel. The rookie we drafted should man the nickel from day 1 I think, he looks like a beast.

I was not very impressed with Hill prior to last season. After he came in opposite of JR last year I thought he looked really good. He had some nice PD's. But yeah, I think it will be a competition this year for sure! I'm also a lil leary of saying we have a solid defensive backfield. We said that the last 2 years and both years they underachieved.

So I assumed that Long was set to take over for NRC in the Slot.

In preseason 2019, Long looked completely lost. Tentative and out of position.

Seemed to progress to “adequate” during season.

Hope the light turns on for him in year 2.

Worst case scenario Long is every bit what NRC was and more in the slot.

Best case scenario he takes the starting CB spot opposite Ramsey and he's solid shutting down balls going to the 'weak side'.

Long will be fine. I'm by far more concerned about our ILB situation.
