Will it? This is only his first season. Shouldn't he be able to go back to a practice squad if he becomes a free agent and nobody signs him to a contract?

If the Rams thought he was starting material he would have beaten out Reeder and the team wouldn't have traded for Kenny Young. Dakota is a backup level talent. His problem is his lack of speed which limits him to strictly a 2 down backer at best. In todays NFL, speed at ILB is very important. He ran a 4.77 but only a 4.8 at his pro day. Being under sized he needed to post better times. He's got decent short area quickness, but his lack of speed limits his usefulness. That's why Reeder beat him and the others out as I predicted he would. Troy has the size and speed (4.6) to play the position.

IMO it will come down to Reeder and Young to fill that second ILB spot. I think Young's coverage ability will give him the edge. Reeder was routinely pulled on passing downs to bring in the nickel DB which is an indication of his lack of coverage ability. In Wade's scheme it's normally the NT that is the first to be pulled to bring in the nickel sub-package. The second ILB gets pulled by Wade normally to bring in the dime package.

It's why IMO if Young shows he can cover as well at this level as he did at UCLA then I think he wins the MO ILB start over Reeder. With Ramsey and Long at CB's Wade will have the type of players he needs to play his true style of defense.

Hill has been doing really good so far since becoming a starter. Him coming in to his own is the type of thing the Rams need to happen to sustain success salary cap wise.
