I'm not necessarily a fan of Cook blocking a DE - like, ever. But I have to wonder if the check play out of that formation is for him to release or run a route. There are probably two other plays that can be called out of that formation. It's just unfortunate they ran that one with him blocking.
That final pic has 5 Cards who are free to converge on the RB either at or within 1 yrd of the LOS.

Looks to me like if Cook had sealed his edge, there's a nice little hole right off-tackle.
must be why I'm not an RB. I see two guys on the outside of Cook who are in position to get him for no gain...

Yeah, that stuff happens so quickly, that there might not be a hole either. Hard to tell. No idea why Barksdale is turned around like that, but I can see a little crease for a split second. That's what the good RBs see too, but I myself would have been winded even getting TO the handoff.
