Not even close. Hackenburg is more like Allar but neither is like McSorley, Clifford or McGloin.
I would have been much more comfortable with McSorley in that game than Allar. The threat of a QB running is huge in close games. Plus, McSorley was a true leader.
If that picture just means that PSU has just had second and third tier QBs for the last 15 years, then yes that’s true. They all had their warts.
Allar was Franklin’s first top rated QB commit but he came with very little high school experience. But that’s how Franklin has always had to recruit. Very few five star players go to Penn State. I’m not sure if it’s been lack of booster money or just that PSU has had that ‘good but not elite’ reputation. Some say it’s the school’s location, because it’s in the middle of nowhere. But Ohio State has been able to come into PSU and steal their top rated players for several years. Notre Dame and Michigan do also. Kyle McCord and Marvin Harrison were two in the same class. It’s a painful reality.
But, considering what he’s up against, Franklin has done pretty well with recruiting. They find some three and low four star gems. They rarely get the top transfers also. It’s been an uphill battle. Paterno faced the same problem. Guys like Posluzny, and Sean Lee were three star players.
